MN weather

Woke up this morning 19 below zero wind chill of -42.Tomorrow suppose to be colder. Glad I filled the dog houses full of hay thursday. Guess that's why we don't have any "dillers" up here.LOL! In these temps. older dogs are having hard time, be sure to check them often and give them lots of water. MY heated pails even have ice on top.

my thermometer said minus 8 but i think its colder than that. glad my dogs are in the house. go give those dogs some warm, not hot food and water guys. i know in about 3 days some one will come on here and tell of an older dog that died mysteriously this week. this cold is tough, get out and spend some time with pooch.

dan, you are right about that barking in the dog house. several years ago a fella had an older brood gyp that we had bought.(cowboys mothers sister) she died mysteriously on a cold week. the fella taking care of her couldnt figure it out. he said she was fine when he got up that morning she was out barking in her box so she couldnt have died in the coldest part of the night ,but waited till midmorning and couldnt take it anymore. sad

ya

i bout lost danIV last year, his body temp was so low it wouldn't read on the digital thermoter. we just about lost hannah this year. they are both out of sable, sable died in the winter when she was 3 or 4 yrs old. that stylish coma and cookie cross cant take the cold. they seldom come out of the dog house to eat and drink when it gets below 10 degrees. i also lost a littermate to four, ben was hunting her up at his place, he said she was barking in the dog house, but didn't tell me till it was to late. and he never had a dog before that so he really didn't no what was happening.

I just got back in from checking on the dog. WOW its **** cold!!
I fixed the dogs up a big pot of leftover beef stew and threw in a bunch of scraps and such. I gave the boxes a bunch more bedding too. I'm going to be leaving tonight and won't be back until some time late tommorow night or possibly Mon morning. I sure hope she'll be alright. The other dogs are in the house with the wife so they'll be lying around the fireplace.
Meanwhile, I'm helping a buddy out w/ is calving operation. Man it is gonna be cold out there. Having calves this time of year seems crazy to me but that's the way he has done it for years. When you guys are on here tonight sitting in your houses snuggled in a warm talking smart on here, remember me sitting out in a barn on a hill tonight!LOL! BRRRRRRRRRR!

One thing I do to keep my hounds warmer is.. Not add hot water to their food.. I open a can of Pork n Beans.. heat it up .. and add canned dog food to it.. adds more calories.. and seems to keep the hounds warmer longer.. I like this method better then the water.. With the salt in the pork n beans.. they will drink more water!! Thats just what I do.... anyone else do anything different then adding warm water?

Mine stink bad enough without feeding them beans....

As cold as it is, and with the wind we have it dont get much colder than this.

Dan Dogs, The milking aint so bad, its the stuff that goes with it that is a pain.

LOL... Mine are in the kennels in the barn.. and... once it hits the ground.. if ya clean it up after it freezes.. it dont matter.. it dont smell any worse then anything else..lol.. I dont give all my hounds the beans... Just my old ones.. .My old Black and tan will be 15 years old next month.. has been working for him for years! I like it... and so does he.. heat it up.. pour it on top of his dog food and he gobbles it up!!

3 out of the first 4 farms I went to this morning had frozen water pipes. Temp was -11 in Caledonia Mn. this morning according to the bank in town. Did take a cruise down through some hills and found a couple coon tracks though. Guess them old boars are like people when they got breeding on the mind. I mix up 20/20 milk replacer half strength and put a quart in the dog food morning and night plus warm water in the water pans. The wife still brought my old female in the house untill this is over.
