Long Runs

Boy, the coons are really running long these days. I guess the rut is in full swing. I ran one the other night up the road, to the right, back to the left, back to the swamp, to the left then the right and finally treed. He would not look immediately; I had to really look for him. Anybody else running coons far until they tree? I have always heard that they run far this time of year. I was so proud of my hounds that I bought them a steak a piece. Boy what a run!!

Do they normally come in heat this time of the year? I figured it was in the fall when the deer come into rut.

coon started rutting hear in minnesota last week. cowboy and xtra struck in same swamp. cowboy went about a mile through woods, across a field, through more woods, swamp, then treed in giant hollow basswood. xtra went opposite direction also about a mile up wooded lakeshore past big dozer pile(thank goodness) through second swamp, up a creek across open field to a little patch of trees. got treed with 30 pd boar on outside. treed over an hour till i got there. walking out i heard some rustling in another fencerow about 200 yards away. looked over and another 28 pd boar scurried up a tree. checked him out when he hit the ground. looked over and there sat another free one. to tired to skin third coon in one night . left him .
