I have another rules question 4(g)?

I have been reading the rule book all week my first hunt will be tommorow night I am not sure I understand one thing I have read in rule 4g.

Dog treeing, but not declared treed will be minused on tree points on "off"game or slick tree.

Ok how do you score your dog if you go to tree and you find your dog treed, but you did not call it treed because it was drowned out or you could not hear it. If the coon is there do you get the next available set of tree points?

Thanks I will get this figured out someday I figure it will cost me a few entry fees at first though. lol

The fact that you couldn't hear your dog for whatever reason is irrelevant. If your dog is treeing but not declared treed and a coon seen, your dog will be minused it's strike points. It has no tree points. If the tree is circled, your dog will recieve circle strike points. If the tree is minused, your dog will recieve next available position on the tree and minus tree and strike points unless your dog was shutout on strike, then you would just be minused the tree points. All of this assumes your dog was treeing but not declared tree when the judge arrives. It makes a big difference if your dog was there when the judge arrived or came in to the tree after the judge arrived.

If your dog comes into the tree after the judge arrives, it will be minused strike points if a coon is seen, circle strike points if tree is circled, circled strike points if tree is minused.
Hopes this helps

Good luck Eric! The answer above was a good thorough one that should help.
Don't get in a hurry. Don't be intimidated. And you are right it will cost you some entry fees for education.

What are you hunting?

Thanks
Kevin

I am hunting my NTCH Stylish Jake female that I bought in the fall she is a good dog nothing really fancy just an old coon dog that likes to get split and be right. She doesnt have any wins towards grand so I figured what the heck I will see if I can do her any justice.

They are having a hunt at Clarksville tonight so we are gonna go play.

Jim or anyone that knows

If your dog comes into tree after Judge arrives why would the dogs strike points be circled if tree is minused? Looks to me like the dogs strike points should be minused if no coon is seen because that dog didn't finish the track with a plus or circle tree.

I can't answerr why, I can only tell what the rule is. Myself, I believe any dog that is handled at a closed tree for any reason, reguardless of how the tree is scored, has quit it's track and should be minused strike points. But that isn't the way the rules work and the only thing that really matters in a UKC hunt is the UKC rules.

Oddly enough, in PKC a dog will be minused strike points for coming into a tree that is minused for off-game but gets deleted strike points if that tree is slick. Figure that one out! In AKC, if they are handled at any minus tree, before the judge gets there, after the judge gets there or the same time the judge gets there, they are minused strike points. That is the way it should be, at least in my opinion.

Thanks Guys

I had a lot of fun and she made it easy. We had a good group of guys, and she was clicking 3 coons by herself. I still have alot of reading to do on the rule book before i start giving Jim advice.
