That depends on a lot of things. A 4 amp Wheat will last a week for some between charges. A 21 volt/4 amp box or belt usually states burn times at around 8 hours low side/2 hours high side.

I misspoke about the Wheat lights. They are 4 VOLT....not sure how many amps they are but it is for sure alot more than 4 amps.

wheat lights are 4volt, 15 amps... used to sell em yrs. back, nightlites were 6volt, 8amp...

If I remember right, they were 4 volt 6amp batteries. (wheatlights)

A step up from carbide, even if it was a baby step.

Remember when the thing was to put the 4 volt head on a 6 volt night light battery?? The "hotlight" was born. We was in high Cotton then.

Now they come in 28volt......................brighter than the headlights on my truck it seems.

We have came along ways.

I still keep a Wheat in my top storage all the time for guests or in case someone forgets their light. I offered the Wheat to a guy one night that had entered a hunt and then found out he forgot his light. He picked up the Wheat, put it back in my box and withdrew.

does anyone know how long a typical 12v 4a battery will last i thinking of building a light as a back up but want to know about how long they will last, thanks

Micheal,

To answer your question the way you figure amp hours for a light is take the Amp hrs and X2. Ok with that beinging said calculating the burn time of a light could get tricky. Factors that effect the burn time are: the switch setup, the bulb you use, the chemical makeup of the battery (NiMh, NiCad, Gell Cells, etc..). Hope this helps!
