New kind of hunting

Well, last night was my first experience with a Blue dog. Guess I figured out why I hunt with Walkers. We turned a buddies blue dog out last night that is about six years old along with a seven month old walker. They both split up and the blue dog is gone, and I mean long gone. We spent the rest of the night trying to track and find the old blue dog. Guess I will have to say that last night was my first experience with a blue dog and very well will probably be my last. I mean a six year old dog should come when called, especially when he has a shock collar on and you are close enough to shock him. Guess the new kind of hunting is blue coon dog hunting... you turn a blue dog loose and spend the rest of the night hunting him!!!

You're right.

You can always tell how good an entire breed of dogs is by going hunting with just one of them.

I would sure stay away from Blue dogs for good.

I can tell by your intellect and perceptiveness that you must be a born Walker man.

Well Jack, that kinda reminds me of a lot of hunts I been on with them spotted dogs. First you fire the dog , then you turn on the tracker and spend more time hunting dogs than coon. I guess it all depends on your personal experience.

YES!!! It took less than 1 hour to make someone irritated. Last night was a really fun night. The blue dog that we took had been laid up for about a year and only hunted once in the past three months. My buddy and I went and picked his dog up to hunt it for him and new from the get go that he would be a wide open ranged dog. I honestly have to say that if I ever bought a different breed it would be a blue dog. That dog last night is a good dog, just been laid up a bit. I told my buddy that this would be a good post to get some people stirred up about blue dogs.

To blue dog owners and fanciers... I am not judging blue dogs by this one dog. I do kinda like em.

Truse!

WELL THAT IS A GOOD ONE

I HAD A WALKER FEMALE OUT OF CROWDING BILLY BLOODLINE THAT LEFT THE COUNTRY RUNNING A DEER IN 1995 IN ANDERSON COUNTY AND NEVER HEARD OF HER SINCE. YES SHE WOULD TREE A COON BUT DAM SHE LIKED TO RUN THE HAIR OFF A DEER AND I SUPPOSE SHE IS STILL AFTER THAT DEER IF ONE OF THEM HASN'T DIED BY NOW.

In all reality none of us are coon hunters. We are really coon dog hunters. The dog hunts the coon and we hunt the dog.

You hit the nail on the head kid. Some just get "found" (treed) more often than others.

Always said I hunt English not coon.

hunters used to be coonhunters but tracking collars has destroyed that type of hunting but the biggest thing that has changed is the kind of houd that people hunt, years ago I hunted dogs that hunted and area out and they had enough nose to tree coon any where but know dogs are hot nosed and just blow into the country and find a easy one, 30 or 40 years ago we would've killed the stud dogs that people rave about today. Amen Voyd.

I got to admit though, not many of these mutts around here are shy about covering real estate. One thing is for sure, Looser isnt a dog that can get by without his tracking collar. Most of that is because of where I chose to cut him loose though.

One thing I wont tolerate for long is seeing coon sitting up on the way to a dog that's treed. That's why I always liked those Blue Boy Ten dogs.

Larry the point that I wanted to make was that the tracking has allowed us to hunt a different type of dog than we hunted years ago and the type that is primarily hunted now isn't anything but straight away hunting hot nosed popup treedogs, this type of dog is what used to be called a possum dog or cur.

John, how many times did you see Crowding Billys name, in that pedigree. But you should have known how to correct that problem, you know every thing else. A little brotherly love would have taken care of that.

IMO a little too much "go" is better than not enough.

Too much "go" is just plain misserable. Espesially if their "go" is misdirected.

You will see dogs of every breed with not enough, too much, and everything in between.

All dogs have faults of some sort or degree, some folks cant live with some that others will tollerate.

A dog that gets alone and deep quick, and is good about having a coon and staying treed will win its share of casts......a pleasure hunter may want somthing completely different, thats what makes the world go 'round.

your right Mr Cannon if my uncle Jake would have
gone to a dog that lied to him twiced in one night
he would have culled him. These 40% walker dogs
are why we crowned a bluetick purina dog of the
year.

when I think of hunting dogs I think of dogs that can work together and acheive more more than a single dog, wolves have proven that a pack is better then solo, everbody seems to want a dog that only trees by itself now, the best doesn't win now it's the dog that babbles first and whips the other dogs off of the tree, dog hunters call it adjusting for position coonhunters call it fighting.
