How Important Are Licensed Treeing Contests To You?

Just wanting some feedback on how important are licensed treeing contests and the championship title that accompany them to you?

Personally I have nothing against treeing contests and think they are a pretty good game to play to help pass time at the club, make the club a few extra dollars and provide activity but it really doesn't seem like something that needs a champion title to me. A championship title for who's dog can bark the fastest?

Is it something we could look at doing away with to make room for other type of c/f program? Just opening the floor for some discussion. What do you all think?

Treeing Contest

Like Triker I am really happy to go to the hunts that are available to me. Would like to see more but that is a ways off I feel if at all. I have seen only 1 treeing contest for Cur & Feist at Lapeer and don't know if that was a sanctioned one. I know you are reall trying to get this off the ground Todd. The treeing contest title doesn't mean anything to me but it is an event the clubs can make money on if they have them.

"licensed" no interest. I do notice at the hunts the cur fellas seem to particiate more than the hound guys in the treeing contests. JMO

Drag races and treeing contests are a good way for the club to make a little extra. If you have enough people, a calcutta is also a lot of fun.
I don't care much for the titles on the contests.

I personally see no reason to do away with a club $ maker that shows a dog is capable of treeing. You 're talking about certifying dogs as an option for people so why do away with a licensed, registery recognized title that shows a dogs capacity to tree...doesn't make sense to me at all and I hate to say it but I would start a petition to keep it if you try to get rid of it. I'm sure I would get plenty of support for my cause.

Treeing contests give my kids a place to compete besides "kiddie" bench shows and makes them feel important and I don't mind spending the money to earn a title also...

They also give older people or disabled people who can't go to the woods one more event to participate in besides the woods.

Even though I prefer hunting, I can only put as many dogs as I have handlers in the woods, but I can enter as many dogs in this event as I want.

So think about it...why are you considering doing away with an event when all hunts need to do whatever possible to keep people coming?

The licensed treeing contest means nothing to me. I have never entered one, but have no objection to them. The following statement is ONLY MY OPINION. I think U.K.C. needs to focus on a well respected and well known LEADER to get this squirrel program going. Considering the value of a treeing contest seems to be of minimum importance to me.

Personally I have only entered one and have to admit I enjoyed watching the dogs tree. I will continue to enter.
But I have to agree with the comment "considering the value of the treeing contest seems to be of minimum importance to
me". Let's try and concentrate on growing the squirrel and coon hunting aspect of these dogs (Cur & Feist). Leadership and increased participation is needed now. Don't worry about doing away with something that is not a concern.

I'm just glad that Cur & Feist hunters have something they can go do, and be around other hunters. But the licensed treeing contest does not interest me in the least. JMO
