he's still young
and may get more vocal on his own. Some of them have trouble trailing and barking at the same time at first, just like some people have to learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time : )
My redbone responded well to me letting him know I was coming in. No good on a competition dog, but works fine on a pleasure dog. As long as I let him know I am coming in, he wants to communicate with me and will respond, letting me know he is treed and where. If he comes off the tree, there's a different, sort of impatient/annoyed response.
