Tips for competition hunters

Would like to provide some tips for those serious competition hunters who take all this way too seriously:

1. Got a mean dog? Leave it home. Too many people are showing up with dogs already written up, and they think that title is so important, they put the lousy pooche back out anyway. If the dog has a mean streak, good chance it will always have it. Do the breed a favor and forget the title, don't stud or breed the foolish animal.
2. Dog don't quite have what it takes, but know the rules good enough to get by? Do us all a favor, give it more time in the woods or just don't show up. No one wants to listen to you whine your way around the rules and complain about every strike and tree just so you can try and get that win.
3. Have some dignity for goodness sakes. Some of these hunts are getting to sound like your average day care center. If you truely have a problem and feel you may not be able to control yourself, feel free to bring a pacifier or a bottle with you because people just don't want to hear it. If that don't work, please feel free to retire. With fewer people like you around, the sport just might attract some new as well as old competition hunters.
4. Stop calling on my dog! You know who you are out there and in a buddy cast, sure you can get away with it but you are still an @ss. If your dog doesn't strike first, take your lumps. They may on the next drop. Oh was it an accident? Tell you what....take your dog, withdraw and scram. If you don't know your dog enough to call it right, you shouldn't be there to begin with. Stop wasting the cast's time.

The showing at many of these hunts are getting a lot smaller because of the foolishness that goes on. The people who fall into the above statements just don't realize that some of us who have seen enough of this crap are not interested in buying from title dogs anymore. It's kinda like Sammy Sosa and the corked bat. The secret is out and now everything is in doubt. Soon it will spread like wildfire and those titles won't be worth the cheap ink they're printed with to those who are looking for REAL coondogs.

I know there will be one of those folks who fall into the above reading this post and I would like ask you to please retire, hang up the light, get lost.....scram! We don't need your type and you are only stinking up a good clubhouse with your presence. Don't ruin the sport for everyone especially the younger generation.

When I was new to coonhunting as a teen.... I ran into many guys like your describing... That was 1974.... The good guys are the majority but the pumpkinheads seem to be remembered...The tricks all seem to be the same.... I do believe UKC is trying to clean it up... The guy who scortched me as a kid was on the banned list for many years... I smiled every month when I read his name in CB... What comes around goes around,You reap as you sow...ect... There is justice out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!

APlotts very well stated.

I agree with Wayne, but the surprising thing is the list just keeps growing.

Hey Wayne!

Yeah, i've been burned a couple, seen others get it pretty bad when spectating. Was in a cast where a knucklehead complained on just about every strike and tree. Was in a cast once and was told there was no way we could convince this guy there was a coon. Coon was low enuff I thought about jumping up, grabbing it and tossing it to the guy.

Haven't been online much between work, hunting and keeping the kids in line. Sugar is burnin the woods up and better than ever. Working on my pup right now and he's going to be a real nice one. Not much time in the woods but he's doing his job pretty well already. Just ruff trying to leash him up when you get to the tree....he doesn't like it much and I end up chasing him around the tree sometimes....LOL

You can send Sugar down my way to chase these "city coon" anytime !!!!!!!! LOL... That is as pretty a Blue gyp as I've ever seen and I've seen plenty ......... I knew this post would get some real positive reaction..... Thought it would get some real "hate" response as well...... As a kid I went to hunts alot.... Met guys that were great and helped me alot.... Then there were the others that made hunts pure misery.... being a kid I didn't stand up to em but should have..... Just figured that entry fee money was better spent elsewhere and stopped going....... No desire to start up at it again, my dogs prove their worth in January in the worst weather after all the half wit and retards are dead and in the freezer..........

APLOTTS

It had to be said. I have just got back into coonhunting in the last year. I did so because my son wanted start coonhunting. He was 14yoa when we started. My son loves the sport, however I have had to tell him several times that not all coon hunters are like that guy. More often then not. But on the bright side my son really enjoys hunting. I still keep him with me on the hunts but plain on letting him start handling his own dog soon. I hope this will not be a mistake. I have told my son that coonhunters at the club house they are some of the best people you want to meet!, until they go to the woods. It's like they either put there depends on or get out the black candles and turn into the devil. Since I have been back in the comp hunts I have only had one real bad draw, it was so bad my son ask me if that guy was really and adult. Enough you get the point. Thanks APLOTTS for taking the lead.

Your hunt entries can be up !! It all starts with your club. Put simply; Quit letting these type people hunt. We, our clubs have the right to refuse entry to anyone, so long as it does not discriminate based on there race, color, religeon, etc. Trouble makers are not the biggest reason our hunt entries are down. Our clubs are the reason for alowing these types to continue to hunt. Get rid of them, and watch your entries increase. I know first hand it works. Quit complaining and do something about it. Wishing without woking will get you nothing. Just thought I would voice my opinion.

Good post

There are waaayyyy too many people hunting dogs that are just not competition hounds. They waste the casts time with bo-hooers and dogs that are tree happy or run a mile deep by 2 ft wide tract and dont really hunt.

Sadly there are a lot of young people in the hunts who like to pull up to subdivisions by heavy traffic roads and drop out. Shouldnt have to worry about having your dog killed.

Rule 1. Always drive separately that way you can leave when the crap starts.
Rule 2. Dont take crap and if it starts at the clubhouse dont go on the cast and tell the club you wont be back.
Rule 3. Cull dogs!!!!!!!

I can honestly say there's not many cheaters around here. If your packing a coondog it really shouldn't matter. True it makes for a miserable cast. But once again, if YOUR dog does what its suppose to do it really shouldnt matter.

i went to a couple of hunts when i was 16 or so, and i coundn`t beleive the crap that went on. i never went to a hunt again till this summer,28 yrs later. i saw the same old stuff, whining , cheat, and so on. it`s the reason i don`t have any titles on my hounds and don`t care. i know how they hunt, hunted with nt. ch and gr nt ch. my dogs are no less the hounds when hunting. the thing i see at these hunts are those same jerks pushing around the new people coming into the sport, making them not want to come back. i agree with aplotts 100%. oh, and by the way i was just a spectator.

it will never change

if you have a good draw, enjoy yourself.ifyou drive 150 miles to hunt and draw out a jerk,GIVE WHAT YOU GET. there is good and bad people at all hunts.it is how you present yourself that people remember.but if i drive out of state and some body is trying to stick it to me,i ain't gonna let it happebn and then complain about who i drawed. know your dog, know the rules, and never expect the rest of the cast to stick to the same principles you do.it's competition, the rules are in place to handle cheats, its up to you to enforce them

I like drawing the kind most of you who have posted are. Easy Money.

APlotts, you probly dont know your own dog, let alone mine.

By drop #2 I have you beat anyway. I have heard him once already. Maybe not, he is a plott. It mite take a couple of drops for him to bark.

The best tip is for all of you to learn how to handle a dog. I said handle it, not call it.

BTW, your dog doesnt have a title because it is a CULL.

The kud....... blue guy. You might make a handler.
