NAFA report
Raccoon - We have become very dependant on the Eastern part of Russia and when they have a warm winter, it hurts our sales immedi-ately. Outside of Russia, in markets like Europe and North America, Raccoon has not performed as well as expected. We are working with fashion designers worldwide to re-introduce this article as a fashion item. To project next yearʼs prices at this time is impossible. However, if there is a normal winter in Russia, Raccoon prices will increase and it will happen in NAFAʼs auction room first because we have the largest collection of Raccoons in the world and the largest number of buyers. China has also become more active in this article, doubling the quantity they bought in 2005 as compared to 2004. Larger sized, heavier Northern sections continue to be the most desirable, while Southern and flatter sections will sell at proportionately less money.Beaver - New markets have become more active in this important article. North America, especially Canadian manufacturers, used to dominate this article, but today Greece and China are buying 60% of the skins. The dressing capacity and dressing quality outside of North American is improving every day. Russia has shown a tremendous interest in the better quality, finished garments as well as long haired jackets. Clean skins with good quality in both long hair and shearing types will do well. Damaged skins continue to be problematic.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
