That depends on you

Are you going to be hunting by yourself, mostly? If so, the cheaper one would do just fine. If you are going to be wanting to track more than just two collars or hunting with people that you would like to be able to track also, then you would probably want to spend the extra.

the classic only tracks two specific collars. if you have a collar go bad you can't borrow one untill you get yours fixed. it becomes a one dog system untill you get yours back ( whenever that may be). with the 1000 you can just program another collar in untill you get the broke one fixed. it happened to a friend of mine. he can only track one dog. the broke collar has been gone for about 3 weeks.

I have a Maxima, Duo, two Channel.
I like it very much, and can punch any 216 frequency collar made into it in the field.

But I wish I had spent a little extra, and got the 1000, then I wouldnt be limited to using the 216 frequency collars.
It seems like everyone has 217.
If you can get your hands on a 1000 do it, you wont regret it.

Not knockin the Classic, its a great system.
