I spectated on my first nitehunt awhile back. I got to actually hunt my dog and handle it myself last week. I had a great time. I will continue to hunt my dog in the nitehunts. I'm truley sorry you had such a bad experience, kinda sounds like you are gonna turn into an @ss just like the guys that did it to you. What good is that gonna do you, or anyone else? Your just gonna turn someone else against hunting in the nitehunts.
GEEEZ... sometimes you guys are worse whiners than women.

might need to buy a pup that is going to stay treed!!!!
I am just kidding, if you like him that is all that matters. Personally I would have him up for sale and looking for something that is going to stay treed. Coondogs are alot like kids, your parents don't want you to fight, but they don't want you to run either, coondogs are no different.. Keep what is yours!!! Personal Opinion you can't win if you don't stay treed.

re

yall are going to run him off fast then them people did at that hunt...

i've been in the same predicument tig2grrr, and the only thing you can do is take it honestly. after that hunt if your dog has feelings you might end up having to get a new dog, if he didnt get his feelings hurt then you wont have to worry about him coming off the tree.

you will get the 'hang' of it

!!!!!

tig2grrr,
First off, and Im not being mean, you, me or anyone else for that matter has no buisness hunting a 13 month old puppy in a competion hunt. The pup is just that a pup, and its not mentally ready for everything that can, and will happen in a hunt.
Sure hes treeing his own coon, sure hes looking good as heck almost every night, but if I had a dollar for every pup that has been ruined in these hunts I could take the rest off the year off.
Put your pup back into the pleasure hunting woods, and put a good kill season on it. Then next spring take your 2 year old DOG, and clean house. How many times do you think he is going to get his butt kicked at the tree before he says to heck with this Im going to stay here with daddy were its safe? Just think about what Im saying. Yeah to get back at someone is great, but to ruin your pup to try and do it is stupid, and belive me you will feel like crap when you ruin your fine pup. You will blame everyone else for your pup being worthless, except for the person who truly is at fault and that will be YOU.
Now about the revenge thing. When something happens whos gets caught? It always the 2nd person. What I am saying is, yeah you got screwed, it will not be the last time. Just take notes, pay your dues, and dont do anything stupid. If you get to fired up two thing will happen. 1- your pup is gonna get ruined, and 2- your gonna be barred.
Like I said Im not trying to be mean, but I have hunted in hundreds of competion hunts. I know the game, and its just that with some people a game. No honor, just let see who we can screw tonight.

just out of curiosity, you don't think much about the super stakes or the futurity hunts in pkc do you? you have to win a 100 dollars on your pup to qualify.

re

hell the world champion last year was like 18-19mo old not much growing from 13 months to 19months.

the dizzy dog was a nite champ at 13 months old i believe (could be wrong)

dogs mature at different times if i think a dog is ready then i would hunt him at 13 mo

If this young mans pup was mentally ready, and could handle the pressure that some dogs can apply, then he wouldnt be on here posting about how he got screwed. He would be posting about how his nice pup took the fang pressure and put a whipping on an 8 year old dog.
Also, yeah you guys are right. Dog do mature at different ages. There is hundreds of 1 year ol nightch that have been made. A few Grands and yep even a world champ. Now think about how many thousands of dogs over all the years have been ruined by the owner thinking the pup is ready. The bad things that can happen to a young hound by pushing it in competion hunts to fast, by far out weigh the good. Is it worth it? To most people the answer is NO? However to some, the answer is YES. Whos to say who is right.
As far as the SS program, most of the time when someone wins the hundred on thier nice pup. Its in a pup cast. Not every time but most. Can a year old pup be mean as all get out? OH yes I have seen it, but in most cases on a pup cast its just young dogs doing the best they can.
Now dont anyone have a cow and say I won my hundred against 5 year old dogs. I know that happens. I said most do not all. Most people that have a pup will be at the hunt trying to put a pup cast together. I know thats what I do. I personally dont want to hunt a 13 month old dog with 3 older competion wise dogs. I want to win, not saying I dont think I can beat the older dogs, I just like the chances of beating other pups better.
All I am doing is giveing the young man some insight on how ALOT of competion hunters are. Now yeah back 20 years ago hunters would go out of thier way to makesure young hunters had a good hunt, but today its more like alright fresh meat. Once again, before you have a cow, I said ALOT not ALL.

call my dog a wussy or whatever but when you get those writeups and your dog sittin on the pine - i will still be hunting

Right

I would also like for my hound to get out of the way of danger and get on in there and get hooked. I will take a 125 minus over a 300 dollar vet bill anyday.
What Im saying is a pup normally doesnt do that. They tuck tail and run. This is due to the mature factor. They have no idea why or what just hapened.
No more hunting, well not for coon, they are looking for you. Now you just took 125-, and your pup is on the non hunt clock. You know what happened. There is a mean frigin dog at the tree, but heres a saying I have heard over the years, and I bet you have also." Light Broke". (ex. yeah ol dan is as ruff as a corn cobb, but I have him light broke. When he sees me coming the horns fall off and hes on the wood like an angel.)
The competion world is not for fun or the faint of heart. Its a cut throat world. Where, as sad as it is to say, its do unto others before they do unto you.

YOU GUYS,
I DELETED BECAUSE NO ONE GOT MY POINT...IT WAS THE JUDGE AND MASTERHOUNDSMAN ACTIONS THAT PISSED ME OFF...MY PUP IS FINE HE LEFT THE TREE BUT WAS 15 TO 20 FEET AWAY STILL GIVING A SHORT BAWL TIL HE SAW ME THEN HE CAME TO ME THEN RAN BACK BY THE TREE...I TOLD THEM TO MINUS HIM I WAS TRYING TO GO BY THE RULES...I WAS JUST MAD THE JUDGE WOULD NOT SCRATCH A DOG THAT WAS AFTER TWO DOGS IN THE CAST...

I THINK THE MASTERHOUNDSMAN AND JUDGE SHOULD GO BY CAST MAJORITY...HEY IF I WAS BEING JICKY MY BUDDY WOULD CALL ME OUT ON IT AND TELL ME THAT S$%T DON'T FLY AND I MAKE HIM LOOK BAD

Well

As for myself, the judge, the MOH, and probly everyone on this board we're sorry. Sorry that we cant tell you what you want to hear. Fact is that is just not how it works in the real world.
You, and everyone else on that hunt knows what happened. You know you got hooked. You dont need to hear about how crappy the judge and MOH is; you already know.
The point I was trying to make to you is: This is just how it is in the hunts. Its nothing personal against you or your pup, but your going to be on several bad hunts. I was just trying to get you to see whatelse is at risk.
I know your pissed, we all get pissed when we get hooked, thats the competion side in a person. No one likes to loose. I was just trying to get you to look past right now. Look at what could, and will happen if you get bull headed.
You seem like a fine young man, and young people are this sports future. You can see what our present sport is like. If you dont like it, its up to you and young ones like you to change it. Dont fall into the whole "Ill get you back at all cost" world of competion hunting we have now. Strive to make coonhunting better. Try to get back to do unto other as you would have them do unto you. Not how it is now.
The whole getting someone back is a terrible circle to fall into. Right now you feel like you owe 2 maybe 3 people some sorta payback. What are you going to do? Get yourself and a buddy with you on a hunt and screw the pants off the guy. All thats gonna do is piss the other guy off and you can write it down next time you draw him. He and a bud of his are going to take you to school. It never really ends if and when you fall into that trap.
You seem smarter than that. Dont let being pissed cloud your judgement and make you do something your gonna regret. Thats all Im trying to say.

You might be hunting but you probably won't be winning much. I'll take my chances with one that will stay treed any day.

AND THUS THE TRUE ATTITUDE OF THE COMPETITION COONHUNTER. NOTHING AGAINST YOU PERSONALLY JOSH BUT THAT WIN AT ALL COST ATTTITUDE IS AND WILL RUIN THE SPORT. AND THAT IS THE ATTITUDE I HAVE SEEN IN MOST, NOT ALL, BUT A LARGE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE I HAVE DRAWN OUT WITH. LET ME JUST SAY I HAVE DRAWN OUT WITH SOME GREAT GUYS AS WELL.
PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER EMBARRESSED IF THEIR DOG FIGHTS. THEY ARE EMBARRESSED IF HE LEAVES AND DON'T FIGHT. THAT IS A PROBLEM!!!!!! THAT IS BACKWARD FROM HOW IT SHOULD BE!!!!!

NO I AM NOT GOING TO DO THAT...I WILL JUST NOT HUNT THAT CLUB ANYMORE AND IF THAT MOH IS AT ANOTHER CLUB I WILL NOT HUNT IT...IF YOU TALK TO ANYONE IT IS NOT ABOUT LOSING BECAUSE THAT IS OKAY...IT IS ABOUT NOT BEING TREATED WITH RESPECT AND LISTENING TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY AND DISMISSING MY CONCERN.....

HEY TOMMY SMITH WAS A MOH AT A COUPLE I HAVE HUNTED AND THEY EXPLAINED THINGS I WAS UNCLEAR ON AND WE ALL LAUGHED AND I TOLD THEM ALRIGHT NOW I KNOW SO YOU WON'T GET ME ON THAT AGAIN...THE PERNELL HUNTS UKC AND PKC HAVE BEEN GREAT...ALL I ASK FOR IS RESPECT AND TO LISTEN TO MY CONCERNS...

OKAY I AM DONE COMPLAINING...

Agree 1000% with Blueduck if dog fights at tree shoot it and if owner wont ban him from ever hunting in a hunt again.

LET ME SAY I HAVE HUNTED PKC AT PERNELL...BUT SPECT. UKC AND EVERYONE WAS GREAT...

THIS PUP ACTS LIKE A PUP..THAT IS MY MISTAKE TO THINK I COULD HUNT HIM IN A UKC AND NOT GET HIM EAT UP...????COME ON GUYS...

FACE BARK OR BLOWING IS OKAY...

BUT I BET I CAN MAKE ANY DOG LEAVE A TREE...ANYONE WANT TO BET????..IF I GO IN AND PUNCH AND KICK HIM TIL HE HAS HAD ENOUGH... SO ANY DOG WILL LEAVE A TREE IF SOMETHING IS MEANER THAN IT AT THE TREE GIVING IT A FEW REASONS TO LEAVE...

SO THAT IS NOT THE POINT GUYS....

I JUST WANTED RESPECT AT THE HANDS OF THE MOH...DON'T BELITTLE ME AND DISMISS ME...

THAT IS IT NOT TO BE DISRESPECTED TO SAVE FACE WITH YOUR BUDDIES AND TALK TRASH BEHIND MY BACK STAND INFRONT OF ME AND TALK...

YOU GUYS ARE GETTING ME HEATED AND I NEVER GET UPSET...

HEY KEVIN CALL ME SOMETIME I GOT THOSE CLUBS FOR YOU...YOU NEED TO GET THEM AND USE THEM...

I HATE THINGS NOT BEING USED..YOU CAN PUT THEM TO GOOD USE AND ENJOY THEM...
