Things to Do in Okla

if Janet Kirkes or Deb Lemmons should see this or anyone else for that fact I've had folks asking what there was for the the hunters better half to do in or around Coalgate, Okla during the "Great Western Shoot-Out" weekend in November.

I told these folks to keep an eye out and I'd try and get them an answer, as they were thinking about attending this event.

Janet, Deb ????????? can you help me on this one??

Thanks

Mark are you going to be at this hunt? See if you can get Toney Foley to come down.

If I were going to Oklahoma, I could spend a week and hunt with my friends who have bought pups from us or hunt dogs out of our line. We have some good friends from the "Sooner State". Maybe some of friends will be hunting in the hunt.

Things to do here...

well, Mark this is a pretty rural area and not alot going on....over in Coalgate I cannot think of a thing...but you can drive about 14 miles to the East to the town of Atoka and there is the Confederate Museum and Cemetary..pretty interesting. Also has some memorbilia from some of our famous cititzens like Reba McEntire and Lane Frost on display in it. There is also the Cimmaron Cellars Winery just south of town...they have a tasting room and some really nice wines for sale. And yes...we have a Wal Mart in Atoka! Laugh! There are also some great antique stores in town and some great ones also over at Antlers which is about 32 miles east of Atoka. I did checkwith the Oklahoma State Tourism web site and they show that there will be a Folk Festival and Craft Show over at Beavers Bend State Park at Broken Bow Oklahoma on that weekend...Broken Bow would be about 80 miles to the East of Coalgate. I would also reccomend that Okla. City is only about an hour and half from Coalgate and the Oklahoma Murrah Building Memorial would be well worth the trip and the Bricktown area is close to that...lots of shops and restaurants and a riverwalk. The National Cowboy Hall of Fame is also a great place to visit while in Oklahoma City. Hope this helps.

Coalgate huh? If I were in Coalgate I'd have to look up one of our grandpups - a pup off our dixie and the childers' razor red dog. A man i believe by the name of Jackie Collins or was it Jackie Porter (don't have my litter records within reach here) bought a male pup at battle of breeds last year, a big loud mouthed bull of a pup, I been meaning to try to call him up and see how that pup turned out. He'd be 10 months old now.

I don't remember exactly where it was but we went to a tre' cool drive through wildlife park called Arbuckle Wilderness onthe way home from BOB last year - somewhere between ada and the southern border.

Arbuckle Wilderness is a great place to go with all the exotic animals. There are always lots of garage sales around Coalgate and loads of antique shops in Ada and Atoka. Durant is about 40 miles away and there is an Indian casino and bingo hall there.I guess if they can have guides for the hunts we could have guides for the ladies. I think I'll print up some info to give out at the hunt for the ladies that don't want to just sit around and here how that ole dog does. We hear that every night anywhere we are.

djsweetwater, go to the post Great Western Shoot-Out Bluetick/English. I have some information on this event, also the ad will be out in the Oct issue of Bloodlines. It is based on the same prinicple as the BOB but with all cast winners having a scoring for their team, and a rotating award for the Assn to display.

This event is be hosted by the 2 organizations, and they will work the entry tables and handle the event, and giving the club the needed time to get ready to put the hunters in the woods.

Plus, its another event in the Western States for hunters to attend and promote their breed, hunt, show and have fun !!!!

Hope this helps
