I was beginning to wonder why my 8 month old redbone wouldnt even bark and would just stand under my feet when i took him hunting ( alot of you people are probly wondering why i cared at only 8 months but im just a kid and this is my first dog) . Everyone said that redbones take longer but my friends dogs were only 7 months and tracking alot (they were blueticks) and i didnt like the fact there dogs were better than mine. So i dunno what happened but all the sudden Duke just turned on i guess. 3 nights ago he treed with the other dogs. 2 nights ago he tracked really good and hard with my friends pup. Last night i took him by himself and he tracked hard about a half of a mile but then i grabed him cuz i didnt want him to go around or over the railroad tracks. I might take him tonight and if he gets to tracking again wait a little longer and give him a chance to tree
I hope he keeps it up I will keep you all posted.

with a slow-starting careful hound IMO
8 months is not that young for them to turn on, no matter what the color. You keep working him hard and he'll figure it out.

I second what Emily said about having a slower starting hound....It allows them to mature more, physically and mentally. My pup turned one yesterday and she treed her third coon, all by herself, just 2 nights before that. So dont give up, Im sure he'll make out all right. In the mean time, just keep gettin him out there thats all you can do. Good luck and happy hunting with that handsome Redbone.

Took Duke out again last night with my buddies bluetick pup ( 6.5 months ) Duke struck first witch was surprising cuz blew is a strike dog and duke was tracking till blew started in then he shut up for a while and tracked off and on. We were walking back to the house and were almost there when we heard duke. when we got there he was treed in a huge tree. it was probly a slick tree but who cares duke acctully treed thats all i care about right now.
