Seth,

I have the classic and get along very good with it up here. Also used it down at the World hunt (hills) with no problems. I have the Intello collars and have got along fine with them, however I am going to switch here in the future to a smaller-type collar to make a tracking/shocking combo.

i have had nothing but trouble with mine!! i've sent it back to TRACKER 3 times now, and it has to be sent back again!! i've had it for about 2yrs now(tracker maxima). everytime i send it back,it costs me $100- $300 to get it fixed( i paid $1200 for it). i keep the receiver in the truck at all times now because the fella at TRACKER tells me it is getting moisture in it, and it still screwed up!! who knows what they will say this time.

I wear mine when it's raining no problem. like anyother system dont submerg it. it's weather proof, not water proof.
one thing i love about mine, is we go hunting all my buddys has to go back to the truck to get there system's. all i have to do is take mine out of the pouch and track my dog. find sombody that live's close to you that has one and go hunting with them so you can try one out, see how you like before you buy one.

Those others are right on. When I said it can't swim I meant it literally LOL. I fell in the creek with mine, my whole body was completely under water. I sent it back and they fixed it free of charge even though I told them I fell in the creek (I guess they felt sorry for me cause I had only had it for about 1 month).

I have hunted in the rain, sleet, snow, fog etc and it never has bothered mine. The only major trouble I had was when it was dunked.

I've had mine for 6 years, but only about 3 of those years was hard huntin.

Tracker Classic

I have a 1 year old tracker classic with two Intelo collars. It has worked just fine on finding the dogs. In rain I just wear mine under my coat, this seems to work pretty good. Jack

My Tracker Classic arrived Friday.Saturday I hung a collar in a tree here at the house and drove around the country a little.
I must say that I was surprised how much range I got out of it.I was very impressed with the unit in general.Definatly peformed better in these hills and hollers than I thought it would.
The unit should perform very well in the flat country where you are located.

The nice thing is...

Play with it while you are pleasure hunting under normal hunting conditions. Use it while your dogs are running and you have a good idea where and how far away. I don't know that the tracker is any better than the others, but it is no better than the guy holding it. But the others are stuck behind the seat of your pickup and don't get used until it is needed, then it is a little late to train. My collars got to turning off intermittently and I took a brillo pad to the contacts and battery posts and that problem was solved. 9 out of 10 Tracker owners will tell you that they wouldn't have anything else.

I have heard that there is a learning curve to figuring them out and you should have experience with other tracking systems before trying to use a Tracker.Maybe the Maxima's are more difficult to use than the Classics.
All I know is that after messing with my Classic for about 5 minutes I was wondering how anyone could be too stupid to operate it.

Trying to sell New Tracker Maxima

I bought a Tracker Maxima 2000, new, 1 1/2 years ago and never used it.

I bought it (with the pet tracker transmitter) to track my 4 year old son, in case he was not returned from a visit with his father.

I tried selling it on ebay and the traffic was so slow it did not meet the reserve that I put on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could sell this?

I would greatly appreciate any help.

Tamara

a friend of mine has a tracker.. he has had good luck with it. He had a little trouble at first trying to work it but he can work it good now.

I think its a nice tracking system to have if you had to take it with you to find your dogs. I have had to carry his Tracker for him a couple times and its a nice small system to take through the woods.

Only problem I have seen him have with it was in the cold weather, like when we were hunting late winter and it was still pretty cold out the Tracker wouldn't work right till he got it warmed up again.

I think that where the so called problems come in is that it picks up signal almost to well. Many have commented the it picks up from the back end as well. It does to some extent. It seems almost to easy. Just cut it on and it goes to it's preset freq. The secret is to turn the gain wheel as low as you can (in manual mode) and still be able to hear the faintest of beeps. Make a swing with it. If your are hearing a beep all the way around turn it down some more. This time around you should only get a beep in the direction of the collar and any strong echoes. Pay attention to the bar graph it will show which is the stronger signal and most likely direction.
Now that you have direction look at the number on the gain (1-10) with some experience in your terrain you should be able to use the number to guestimate the distance with 1 being closest.
I will eventually be sending mine in for the connector for the yagi and a general tune up. I can see where some who are used to a yagi think the tracker is not as good at pinpointing. The two antenaes are different and the yagi is designed to be strictly directional so it will be easier. The tracker can be just as good if one uses the gain to limit the amount of signal it is trying to read.
Please don't take this to read that I am really knowledge on tracking systems. The maxima is my first tracking system, prior to this one I used a borrowed wildlife so my comparisions are based on this and are somewhat limited.
I do know this I tried the maxima side by side with the wildlife in a pretty rough test. I placed an active collar on the ground on top of a ridge then drove 2 1/2 miles down to the river bank with a couple ridges and a power line in between. The maxima was every bit the equal of the wildlife in all but one thing the maxima picked up more signal off the water (opposite direction from the collar) than the wildlife did. It was still fairly easy to determine the correct bearing though.
