Wow!

That is TOO cool! We very rarely see the coyotes here but we hear them, we have Tons. Unfortunately we don't have any Raccoon! The local foxhunters (on horseback) hunt across the street from us for the coyotes.... where I walk with our non hunter B and T... I think about the coyotes aLOT. It is Cool to see those eyes in the picture!
Happy hunting, Heather William

Here is MO where there are more coyotes than people, I have had them come into the tree and bark at the dogs. Had it happen once on a night hunt and after we got to the tree the coyote followed us for about three hundred yards never more than 35-50 yards away from us. It seemed to be a young one that was curious at us and our dogs.

Gun needed

I know they are just tryin to make a livin but they have come in close on us before as well. Especially here lately. Problem is you dont carry one and your dog gets attached then your out a dog etc. If the Conservation Officer catches you carrying a gun out of season well you know the story. that is a little too close for comfort for me.

that is a cool pic! we've had coyote come in close to us also. one time in ny had them sit back and watch while the coon was skinned. very eerie. last summer my jack dog got attacked by a coyote. if not for the tracking collar and the e collar, i could very well have lost him. the coyote bit into the e collar. cracked the case in the corner. i think thats why he let go. he got a sting from that.
in pa you can get what they call a protection permit for a pistol. not the same thing as a carrying permit. its just for carrying the pistol in the woods for situations with coyotes etc. that way you can carry the pistol without being cited.

Neat pic......We have tons of yotes in our area. I wish the city folks that bought all the land would allow hunters to run foxhounds. But, you know it might scare all the deer off

I have never had coyotes attack any of my hounds. They will sometimes bark at them if they get too close to the den. The folks on the farm next to mine run them with fox hounds and they catch and kill the coyotes all the time. When I do have a dog run the coyotes I have never had them turn on the dog. Risk vs reward too high for coyotes to attack dogs most of the time. a 40 pound coyote (Which is a real big one) don't fair well against a 65 lb hound.

My uncle has had several of his bear dogs torn up by coyotes. They snatched one of his older gyps during a chase last year.

They may not weight as much..

but generally yotes are in packs and make a living at pack-killing.

I generally let predators be predators and they mostly kill mice etc but I have seen a recent population explosion in my area.
