Wilbert (Mac) McCallister Obituary

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/165aHqeb9X/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Wilbert (Mac) McCallister was born on March 6, 1936 to Earl and Lois (Woods) McCallister at Mountain Grove. He departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 14, 2025, at the age of 89 years. Mac graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1954. He excelled in all sports: baseball, basketball, football, track and field and boxing. He set records in track that have never been broken. Mac married Dorothy Hubles, and to this union, two sons were born, Rick and Mark. On May 11, 2005, he married Linda Leiber Burkhart. The couple celebrated their 20th anniversary this year. Mac was a land surveyor for 25 years and retired in 1979 to pursue his passion for coon hunting. He bred and trained Treeing Walker coonhounds and traveled the U.S. and Canada showing his dogs and competing in hunting meets. Three of his dogs are enshrined in the Treeing Walker Hall of Fame. He also loved bass fishing and always owned a bass boat. Church was an important part of his life. He was saved when he was 9 years old, but rededicated his life to the Lord and was baptized in 2017 at the age of 81 in Spring Creek in Hurley. The last few years of his life, he attended Allen Pentecostal Church in Reeds Spring.
Mac was preceded in death by his son, Mark; his two brothers, Harold and Lonnie; and his three sisters, Neva Kelley, Arlene Symon and Leda Graham. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his son, Rick and his wife, Kim; and his granddaughter Tia Rae and her husband, Payton, who gave Mac two great grandchildren, Axel and Aspen, who were the joy of his life. Mac had a heart to help people. He was generous with his time and his money. He gave wonderful gifts to his loved ones and always made the surprise presentation fun and special. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. We all look forward to spending eternity in Heaven with Mac. A Celebration of Life was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025 at Allen Pentecostal Church.
