How many hounds?

Just wondering how many hunters keep only one hound at a time?

I only keep one also. Don't like fooling with pups or started gigs anymore. Just one dog to go hunting with. Jr. Steelman

Jr. That's what I'm trying to convince myself to do. But it's hard not to buy a good looking pup ready to start, I know I'm just not able to handle two dogs in rough country/

I have one currently but it's the first one I've ever owned and considering how he trees with a tail I think it'll be easy to make him a champion. Just waiting to get a Garmin before I turn him loose and hunt him with another dog.

Dog

Tom, I only have 1 at the present time, she is a Dual Grand Nite Champion. This is the first time in many years that I only have 1 dog. I am not hunting much due to health problems. In past years I always kept 2 to 3 trained dogs as I hunted 6 nights a week and rotated dogs. I never liked owning just 1 dog because if the dog got hurt I would not have anything to hunt. I guess those days are over and having 1 dog will have to do. Dave

2 hounds

one older trainer and the young trainee. If one gets taken out by a car or gun, you still have a back up plan.

Lance, I never wanted just 1 dog as I enjoyed rotating my dogs. Every dog has their own spin from mouth to track and tree and I enjoyed the differences that each had. I did not want to be without a dog if one got hurt or sick as I wanted to hunt every night. You can not just get a good dog anytime you want and having s couple at least gives you more peace of mind. Bottom line for me was that I was selfish and wanted 2 to 3 really good dogs st all times. Looking back I would not change a thing about keeping more than 1 good dog. If you hunt you will have injuries or death on your dog at some time and having backup dogs worked just fine for me. Due to recent health issues, I only have 1 dog and not hunting her at this time. Hopefully by mid December I can get back in the game. Dave
