Cur Coon Dogs

Never had much to do with Cur dogs but was wondering if there was a line of them that consistently produces good coon dogs?

I have owned a few good cur coon dogs. One of the best coon dogs I have ever seen or owned was a cur/bluetick cross. He had the nose of a bluetick and the brains of a cur. He was a coon dog deluxe and was deadly accurate on any track cold or hot. I would give a fortune to have one like him today, he would be famous in the prohunt circuit. Dave

A stephens Mt Cur is used for Coon the most they are open trailers

You might try a leopard, some are pretty houndy nowadays though. They typically are open trailers though and don�t blow through the country.

Ive been hunting curs for a little over 11 years or so now, mostly for sq hunting, Ive coonhunted hounds all my life, but I have one cur dog that has made a decent coon treeer never been coonhunted hard just for fun, but Ill say one thing if a man could do as Dave said "get that cur dog brain with a hounds nose" I could sure see how that would work. I love the mountain cur breed in particular they are super smart dogs. But to answer your question It seems by the many friends I've made and follow on Facebook alot of cur dogs will make some kind of coon treeer if giving the opportunity. I also have my first Leopard hound (cur) whatever you want to call them... hes smart and gamey that's all I know for now

Thanks for all the replies. Don't know that i am looking for one but am interested in knowing if there is a line that are coon dogs. Or are the ones that make good coon dogs just an exception?

Sounds like the Faulkner Curs consistently make good coon or big game dogs.

Ive hunted Streak bred dogs for 25 yrs day and night.The special ones are rare just like with hounds..when you have a good one you have a good one though.3 yrs ago i got into a good line of bluetick hounds and i prefer coonhunting them.Not that the hounds tree more coon i just prefer the style and mouth of the hounds.I only hunted walkers and english for 30 + years before getting into currs.But to answer your question i had better luck with Streak bred currs than other bloodlines of currs.

I think you should make a bluetick/ cur cross. You might hit the big jackpot, rose and brains are hard to beat. Dave

Cur Coon Dogs

Bought my first cur pup this winter to try exclusively on coon. I have heard a lot of good things about them. My spots are getting smaller and smaller for my hounds so gonna give one a try. Fingers crossed.
