Dreaded dog food post

Victor at my tractor supply is at $52 a bag now. What is everyone feeding and prices in your area?

It took me a while to finally try it but purina dog chow is all you need. Dogs love it, they look great and clean up is easy. I'm feeding the high protein version during season and it's also a good feed. $32 for a 48lb bag. They can't do a 50lb bag because purina still has to find a way to screw the customer.

Been feeding Dog Chow for years and No issues with it. I feed our little House Dog Purina One Tender Selects and does Best on this, and we tried her on about 7 or 8 different Brands of Feeds & she didn't do as good on all the others.

I feed regular purina dog chow in the summer time. I have never had a problem really. I recently found a feed store near me sells Hi-Standard, which is basically Joy from what I have read. So I bought a bag of that, it was 43 dollars for a 50 pound bag of 24-20. So we will see how that goes.

It appears Joy and Hi-Standard have been doing a lot of the coon hunting events here lately so I figured I might as well give them a try and my business if the dog seems to like it.

2 years ago I was paying $29.00 for a 50 lb. black bag of Valu-Pak…today I paid $43.49 for the same dog food…that doesn’t count taxes which is 8.25%…the $14.49 increase before taxes is taxed an extra $1.20 for a total of $15.60 increase…the price more than doubled in 2 years…

I figured Purina Dog Chow by the pound, tax included. In about 18 months it went from 46 cents per pound to 69 cents per pound. And I don't blame Purina.

I have switched to "The Pride", 26/18. $31 tax included for 50lb. Coyote hunters around here have been feeding it for years. Those dogs can run 75 miles in a days time.

I have went back to Pride Dog Food, from Dog Chow when the deals ended. Been feeding Pride for 30* years and it’s hard to beat.

The dogs love the food and they look great on it. Not much crap to clean up. I'd love to keep feeding it but as with everything it has gone up in price quite a bit here in PA.

I recently fed a couple of bags to one dog and I can’t see what the fuss is all about. Tried it with multiple dogs years ago and same results, went back to Pride.

I'm curious about the calories per cup on some of these high end dog food brands. How many k/cup on the victor, pro plan, high standard, and joy supermeal ?
The Inukshuk brand I've been using for six months is 578 k/cup with the 30/25 formula and 720 k/cup on their 32/32 formula. Pretty expensive unless you're buying bulk...best I've used and second best isn't even close.

Lots of people here are buying cheaper food and then buying source horse supplement or hard keeper horse supplement and adding a little scoop to their feed

I'll 2nd what you said about Inukshuk. It's pricey, but I don't think there is a better feed out there. And don't need to feed near as much of it.

What are you paying for it...it gets pretty reasonable by the pallet, and what you'd save on the exchange rate would likely cover most of the shipping. Throw a handful in a dish of water... it sinks like a rock...only feed I've tried that wouldn't float. The 32/32 @720K/cup is like jet fuel.

I got it off Chewy.com, prices are listed below.

30/25 - $69 for 33lbs
26/16 - $64 for 33lbs.
32/32 - $86 for 44lbs

I was only feeding one dog so it lasted awhile. But I've cleaned house and currently don't have a dog. 1st time in over 25 years I haven't had a hound. it's kinda nice.

We just ordered a pallet of 30/25 (65 bags)... $34/bag USD delivered.

Been feeding the Victor 30/20 teal green bag for the last few months. Dogs love it and look great! Hardly any mess. Couldn’t handle paying $70 a bag on Pro Plan anymore. Quality of Pro Plan has gradually went down over the years to boot.
