I also had issues with grain free. Looked great, for a little while. Then extra food to maintain weight, shortened heat cycles only lasting a few days. I researched what I could, found a synthetic iodine in most of the food. I switched to food with corn, not the first ingredient, as that is supposed yo be up to 40% of the food. But second with meat being first.
As far as the euthanasia drug, yes. There is no law that states 'meat meal' cannot be euthanized dog and cats. And venison. Can be road kill.
When I switched, first heat cycle was 3 times longer. Next time, they were normal. When I originally brought some attention to this, several laughed.
I stand by this. We never had this problem 30 years ago. Whoever heard of a thyroid dog in the 70's?
At the very worst I had a dog with ear infections…looked like a severe case of ear mites…I have a 100 percent cure recipe for ear mites and it didn’t work when I used it…most of the dogs had dry skin with dandruff…fed extra to maintain weight…several dogs had fatty tumors at the point of their hams…the female didn’t come in heat…it was the same dog food I fed for years…I swapped and things got better quickly…the fatty tumors went away and the only thing left of them was the scars…
You are right about the 1970s and 1980s…
