Coonhunting and the Outdoors.

As I read a lot of these post, it seems many times no one is happy with anything. When the truth is. We have so much we should be happy and Thankful for. I have seen the sport of pleasure hunting and competition hunting change over the years. I think it is the changes that get us upset the most. In pleasure hunting the biggest change can be loosing the land you have hunted on for years. I have that happen and when it does. You feel like you lost part of your family. But through desire and the positive attributes of what makes a person successful and happy. That can be overcome. I would say the majority of places I pleasure hunted the first 50 years and maybe 60 years of my life are not availabe right now for me to hunt on. However, even though I felt like quitting with every section of land I lost. I worked to find another one. Am I paying more to hunt it. Yes. But I want to hunt and enjoy it. Competition Coonhunting is the same way. Lots of changes and several registration offices to sign your dog up with. Just enjoy it.
Either pleasure hunting or competition hunting. Do it or don't do it because of what you want. You are not going to find happiness or joy in anyone else's way.
Met a young man in his early 20's last week. New to the area because of a job transfer. Really a nice young man. Has a dog that hasn't been hunted much but it is really a nice hound. Going with some young men and women Allows me to see the fun I use to have that years and years of doing the same thing. Kind of took from me. I love the outdoors but I want things to go smooth. Tuesday night I got to see a young man pull a vine and it break and him end up head first in a deep ditch full of mud. I got to see the clip out of the gun get lost and them had feeding a semi auto that wasn't meant to be hand fed.
We have a great sport. Don't let changes discourage you. Perhaps and more importantly on a message. Don't strive to express your opinion to the point of making the other guy wrong. Have fun and enjoy.

I got to experience the fun of walking .9 mi to my dog treed on a possum last night. It was great exercise. I had a blast. I was out hunting for the first time in awhile and she was a young pup that stayed 35 min by herself until I got there.

.

Tuesday night we didn't go to a possum. But walked few hundred yards to a slick tree. But we did manage a coon also. That's with a 10 month old pup. It was all fun. I just talked to the guys at the store and they wanted to know when I would be there. I said probably because I am fixing to go plant a deer food crop. Then hunt tonight. They said they had fixed up a receiver so we could hear the dog barking. Guess we will be testing that out tonight.
