Monday it was 72° and spring was in the air. When I took the dog out late before bedtime it was still 60° and I heard that Unmistakable sound that says spring is on it's way, the peepers were singing their song. It always make me think of early flowers, starting the garden and my bare feet on new fresh grass. Not so fast Mother Nature says and it is 16° and sleeting like crazy. Those frogs better have taken cover!
So instead I've got a big pot of bean soup on the stove, some cornbread making and the fire blazing. I think I will go find a good book to start. Running around barefoot outside looks out of the question today but a girl can dream lol.

I'm hoping to be done with the snowshoes but we're a ways away from peepers. 6-8 weeks likely. I'm ready tho...peepers and crickets are my favorite times of the year.

Folklore has.it they look thru ice 3 times before cold weather is done.

Jennifer, before you go running around in your bare feet, remember the copper heads come out about the same time as the peepers.

Long way from that here in Northern, IN - at least two weeks, maybe 3..

My grandmother always said the peepers have to come up and go down three times before spring is here.. I've monitored it quite close over the years and it's surprisingly accurate.. FWIW.. two more to go for you all!!

Those old wives tails are quite often right. I will keep count of the peepersand see if it holds true. I'm hoping I'm wrong but I've got a feeling we are going to get one of those giant March snows this year. It's been a long time but our biggest snows in history around here come in early spring.

Donald, I have no idea how a copperhead hasn't got me yet!

I will keep track here in Indiana this year.. We are at least two or three weeks away from anything, guys are still ice fishing.. brrrr.. Weather is finally breaking this week and moving in the right direction. Guys are still ice fishing, but with the length of day and angle of the sun, ice will go quick..

We might have peepers by March 15th.. Might..

LOL - Donnie, don't listen to them!!

I will do so and post a video on here.. Gonna be a couple,three more weeks though... I see the ice on small ponds is getting real black.. typically our lakes here are unsafe about March 10th or so.. Peepers right shortly after that depending on day and nite time temps..

Their back tonight after a short siesta. Our daytime temps are supposed to be near 70° all week. I am betting everyone's granny is right and Old Man Winter isn't done with us yet.
