Thyroid dog x Thyroid dog Crosses

A guy told me the other day that people have been making thyroid dog x thyroid dog crosses and the pups didn’t always turn out as thyroid dogs. Anyone that has done this I would be interested in hearing what results you have had.

Why would someone breed a dog with thyroid issues? Seems like you would be increasing the chance of having more thyroid dogs in the future? Not enough good dogs to breed to without thyroid issues?

If you hunt a dog hard enough you will find out all dogs have a thyroid problem at one point or another! Dog food has a lot to do with thyroid problems and also tick diseases is another reason why there is a thyroid problem in most dogs!

As far as breeding thyroid x thyroid it isn’t necessarily a genetic issue!

As far as plus points go I am always up for a hunt for the right amount of dollars to see if minus points wins the cast!

I’m convinced there are lots of “false positive” thyroid dogs out there, dogs that are being hunted extremely hard and show a low number. I’m sure there are more than a few that are being fed thyroid pills for a little extra boost when there’s nothing genetically wrong with them. And I figure several that are legitimately low are the result of diet or thyroid injury (diet, tick disease, pulling on a leash/chain, etc.)
Any of the above examples wouldn’t necessarily translate to passing on to the next generation.

Every dog I’ve had in the past 5 years has had a low normal thyroid. If you want one to hold up and perform right with high energy they to at least be in normal ranges.

And winning without plus.lol. Go get you a slick treeing idiot and run the circuit and win $100,000 with one and tell us how easy it is to win without a top hound that trees coons.

Man, it never goes away, just because you can win without plus points DEFINITELY DOES NOT mean you will. Maybe in these small club hunts you can do that, but just try doing so in the bigger hunts. Go look at some play by plays of these bigger hunts and see how many are won without plus points. Like Jed Said put your money up and see for yourself. Dave
