Ah man. My gyp is at 71 today. Had one go 70 once, she had one female pup. This female is older, so I’m not too concerned. But if she goes too much longer I may need to book her a visit to a vet.

She could have dead pups in her. 71 is way to long. Advice, anytime they over due date get them to the vet. Do not wait on infection to take over and get the female sick before going to the vet.

I got her an appointment, finally. Called 6 vets before I talked to someone who had a clue what was going on. Where’s all the old-time knowledgeable vets at anymore?

BEST advise I ever got whelping pups so I will share with you .
This info is from 20 yrs of recorded data - its SPOT ON!!!

Taking and recording a females temperature is CRUCIAL !!!
Doing this will let u know within 24hrs she will go into labor.

FIRST , Start taking her temp once or twice a day starting @ day 56 and take temp when shes calm.
In the last trimester of her pregnancy her temp will run somewhere around 100deg to 101 and bouncing between those temps for several days.
NEXT, be watching for a huge temp spike!! This higher temp reading
( appox 101.5 -102.5 or greeater) will be highest her temp has been in weeks .

What happens NEXT is the CRUCIAL part >>
Just after this temp spike her temp is going to start DROPPING !!!
When her temp reads 98 deg OR below, labor WILL start within 24hrs you can bet the farm on it !

If labor hasn't started as noted above you've prob got problems on your hands and can make plans.

- The above routine has helped me tremendously over the years and saved the lives of several pups and kept mommas from getting infections from dead pups staying in too long. I WILL NOT raise a litter without recording and taking temperatures.

I Wish you best of luck with your current situation !!
