Ive heard you need to have a clear look at the tree to work.Alot of the trees made this time of year where i hunt you cant shine your light in the tree good and search it for the smaller trees around it.This may not be accurate info.

Have a thermal and use it often. About 70% of the time I really like it and it does good job. Other times it is of no help. Sure sometimes the coon is not there but several times I have been able to see the coon eye but not find it with the thermal. As has been said it just won't go thru a bunch of thick leaves.

So you spend $1500 and leave saying, well he could be up there somewhere. I've been doing that for free for 60 years.

Lol. Donald you are spot on, nothing will ever be fool proof, but it is nice to have even a 70 percent chance of knowing it's there for sure. We ALL have overlooked coons in the past and will do so in the future. Probably gave the dogs the benefit of the doubt on a lot of slick trees, it evens out over the course of a season. Dave

.

I am not discussing or worrying about how the rules will be sorted out with the Thermals. There may never be a Thermal allowed in a hunt.

I will tell that certain models work. As a coon hunter, what my dog is doing away from a competition hunt determines the outcome of what he does in a competition hunt.

Anybody that wants to put any spin the the AGM Thermals to discredit them. Hasn't used one.

As an aging coon hunter my eyes are not as good as they use to be. The length of time I can stand under a tree looking up and circling the tree without getting dizzy is limited. That is where the thermal works for me.

As far as leaves go. The leaves and we have plenty of them down here all year and every year. The leaves on the outer edges of the trees are closer to the temperature of the air. The thermal makes those leaves disappear. Yes a coon laid up for a while in a tight spot of leaves will give off body heat and those leaves will be detected. You may not see the coon grinning at you. But you will know it is a coon.

If I had to give up my garmin tracking system or my thermal. My garmin might be leaving here. But Thank God I have both. Because my hearing is worse than my eyes.

I was referring to smaller tree foilage around the tree your trying to search that keeps you from seeing the tree the coons in.Bad problem where i hunt .Not the leaves in the tree the coons treed in.Again this is something ive heard.Ive never used one.I would like to see one used.I have the getting old dizzy problem too.lol.

Bruce I agree with mostly what you say but I have been using an AGM 25 for one year and there are times when a coon is say in the middle of a tree and the tree is heavily leaved that it is very hard to find that coon. For instance the other night dogs treed in a big leafy viney tree on a pretty steep bank. I looked for some time from every side I could get to but then went right to the trunk of the tree and looked straight up with my thermal and could see the coon. Couldn't see him from any other place. It may be my skills in using the thermal but at least for me it is not always easy to find the coon with a thermal. Just don't want people to think it's automatic that if the coon is there the thermal will show it. But most of the time it's pretty amazing.

Preacher Tom and George, good points. I have had a difficult time on occasion finding the coon on my favorite setting which is Black Hot. But after changing it and check with a couple different settings. It gave me something to look at.

George, I find it somewhat diffrent down here. Everything is kind of warm so that may be the reason. I have found coons two trees behind another tree. The leaves that are close to the air temperature seem to disappear.

Anyway we can only figure all this out by sharing our different opinions. Guess why I am happy with the results I see is I have tried different thermal units for about 5 years now. I finally found one that works. That is important to me as I don't recommend things to others just to sell them. I recommend them because they work. Then I sell a lot of them. I have 72 year old eyes that are also color blind. Any help finding a coon is appreciated.

Thermal

I have only been using one a short time and I have found coon that I wouldn’t have with out it but I have still missed finding a few I know they were there because I seen them as I walked out or seen them as I walked in but still couldn’t find it in the thermal. I’m sure some of it is error or lack of experience on my part but it definitely helps

ruttinbuck they actually have.

Two ways of doing it. You can push a button on the thermal and have a picture or video. But taking it from the thermal to your computer is a little complicated.

The simplest way once set up is to use the phone app that can be on a phone to iPad. Once that is downloaded and you have it connected to your thermal. Whack you can do from the comfort of your home.

In the woods you just select the app and you can control everything on the thermal from the app. You also take a picture or video using the control buttons on the app and the picture shown on your phone and saved straight to your phone. Then you have it like any other picture on your phone to share or keep. The app is called T-vision.
