Auto immune joint disease

One of the best dogs I have ever owned. True grit and hunt drive was insane. Crazy full of energy jumped to the top of a 6ft kennel. Then 3 weeks ago he wouldn’t get off the ground or even come out his dog box. Rushed to the vet said he had an auto immune joint disease, prednisone, pain meds, antibiotics not changing the dog. Has anyone seen this? Any recovery stories? Will he hunt again? Any help would be appreciated.
