Thyroid

Hey guys. I have my dog on thyroid medication. Starting to wonder if that was a mistake. Her thyroid levels were pretty low 1.4 with medication she’s a 2.2. I have an appointment with my vet next week. Going to discuss about seeing if I should take her off the medicine. Has anybody took their dog off of thyroid medication and how has their dog been affected after you have done that?
Thanks

I've always heard and even been told once you start them on the pills you'll have to keep them on the pill rest of their life ( however long they last/live) .
I know of 4 dogs (3 eng 1 walker)( all different owners ) that have been on the pill and taken off and was fine if not better after they took them off of pills.

When I first put her on thyroid the vet told me that she will be on that the rest of her life🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ I first put her the medicine because it’s was on the low normal side and she was missing a lot the more you hunt her. I realized last year when she was on the med that if you shoot to many coons out that she will miss so I’m wondering if she even be on the med. currently she’s not showing me enough eye balls in the tree. I thought maybe it was allergy’s because she’ll sneeze and act like she can’t smell but I keep on thinking that it’s probably the pills. If she continues this after the first frost we have I’m going to think real hard about taking her off of thyroid meds

My experience and opinion. 1.4 isn’t “too low” for a dog naturally to be at. Wean her off the pills over 2-3 week period , do not quit cold turkey. Give her a over the counter allergy med like zertec (one per day) and she what u got. Maybe take her seresto collar off if she has one on too. Call or pm me if you want to talk about it. I spent a lot of time and money to learn that most dogs aren’t thyroid dogs . 😳
