Finding them Coon with a Thermal

If any of you have any tips or tricks. I would love to hear them. For the past few weeks, I have been using one and very impressed with what they can do.
Last night however was a little different story. Found the coon very easily with a light and really didn't need the thermal. But wanted to see it in operation. Generally the Black Hot works for me. Last night it didn't. We actually had a very cool day yesterday. We had a record low-High temperature for the day of 69*. You would think that would make a warm blooded critter stick out even more. We treed one the had been up a while and it just didn't pop out at me like many others have. I actually used the different color settings to see which one was the best. RED HOT worked great on the coon while the other color combinations did not. So last night I learned that perhaps there is not one particular color setup that works for all occasions and you have better scan several of them to see what is up there. Think is you change them at a push of the button so scanning in different modes is no big deal. The unit I use is the AGM Taipan 15.

I didn't take any video or pictures last night. You guys have any of your hunts and want to share. I would love to see them.

Bruce for me the Red Hot setting is usually the best. One thing I have noticed is that a lay up coon that's been up a long time will sometimes just show up white and very little if any red. Maybe because he's been there so long and not putting off much heat?

I've had my agm25 since last august and it seems to work better when its hot outside. I generally use the black hot or the fusion colors, there is also a winter and summer setting on the 25's but I havent fooled with the settings.

.

Preacher Tom. Very interesting in what you said. I have been doing this stuff so long that I have figured out many things can't be figured out. Just tree them and be thankful. With that said this said, we were discussing the track the dogs ran and trying to figure out if we agreed on the type of track it was. I know a week ago the coon stood out on Black Hot and last night it was Red Hot. I am color blind and stay away from red. But last night Red was the ticket.

Blake until last night, what you said is what I have found. Black Hot of Fusion. I have the Taipan 15 and need to check on the winter/summer mode.

Thanks to both of you!
