Hunt Question

Does it matter which way you turn you dog when you cut him in a cast? Like if everyone turns down the edge of corn can u turn yours opposite way?

And it will make people mad when you do it, but it just says cast, don't say have to be pointed same direction.

So if the judge tells you to cut the dogs a certain way.You can just ignore him and do what you want.

Yes.

If you're dog is broke and independent enough to go where you point it and not with the other three dogs cast right next to it.....have at it. There is no rule saying you have to cast the dogs the same direction that I am aware of.

If the judge was a judge an guide both, maybe he had a reason. You can cut your dog any direction you like. There is not a rule. When am judging an guiding I try to send all dogs in the direction that lets me get the most out of a hunting spot . You have to with today’s dogs.Or to keep dogs out of harms way. It’s hard to say if feeders are involved. If judge knows that, I can see him using it to his advantage. That’s what I like about bird’s eye. Cut your dog out of harms way an let it ride.

You had better check with the guide before you do that, there could be major problems if the dog goes the wrong direction.

Only reasons I can see to do that

If I was in a cast and a guy had to cut his dog a different way I wouldn't mind. The only to reasons I can see to do that is if he felt his dog wasn't independent enough, or his dog wasn't good enough to compete with the other dogs down the same ditch on the same coons. If he felt his dog was so slow of a track dog that the others would be treed before he made it half way through the track. Or that his dog if close would pack up instead of using it's own brain. But maybe I'm missing a reason. So why would someone want to cut their dog in a different direction?

Because every once in awhile you'll see one that turns a dog race into a dog fight, lol. Or a handler is looking to put his dog in position to tree one by itself. Or maybe he caught sight of a coon sitting up as the cast walked in. Tons of reasons to send a dog in an opposite direction, but there aren't alot of dogs that will reliably cast 180 degrees from everything else.

When I do it it's to keep peoples culls from following mine around barking their idiot head off.
