A REDBONE LEGEND strike again!

Had the privilege of guiding a senior cast tonight at American Redbone days. Ole Richard Lambert put it on em and walked away with a CW... had a good cast with the seniors and got to hunt with some good guys. See you boys tomorrow night!

Thanks, it just shows that even an old blind hog can still find a pecan occasionally.

So seeing this mention of the “pecan” reminds me of a little story about the proper pronunciation of this nut.

I was visiting a Bluetick man from Buena Vista, GA with another couple friends in March 1988. We were all from northern New England so he was showing us around the local area. There were several small Pecan groves in the area and many were offering them at $0.50/lb. I’d always herd these nuts pronounced as “peecans”. So after mentioning the astonishingly low price of these “peecans” several times old Robert McCorkle had to set this yankee fool straight as to the proper pronunciation of this nut.

He stopped the car, turned to the back seat and said,
“A “peecan” is what you keep under your bed boah!! These hear nuts are “Pick-ans”.

Guess I’d offended him long enough with my illiteracy! Laughed about that several times over the last 30 plus years. 🤣🤣

Maybe them blue tick guys aren't as dumb as they look then! This is a common mispronunciation with the name of the tree nut. I had the old timers in "probably" some of the easiest walking last night as well. Tonight I get to turn my own Holstein loose so they may not be so lucky!

DL NH...

Down here in SE Texas there are a few variations on pronunciation for the nut...

But what is preferred here is pronounced like PAH-CONS...
But then Texas is a big State...so that pronunciation is probably just localized...

I haven't noticed what he is driving but I'm going to go look.
PS ... buttermilk brownies with pah-cons will be here for dessert tonight.
