Iowa hunts

I just got notified by the DNR that all hunt permits are canceled until May 16th.

Good Afternoon,

The continuing health emergency situation for the State of Iowa has resulted in the Iowa DNR determining that all events scheduled through May 15, 2020 be cancelled. This email is your notification that your event scheduled via the DNR's Special Events System is no longer authorized by the DNR, and must be cancelled. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Refunds for events will be issued upon request. Those requests should be sent directly to alicia.plathe@dnr.iowa.gov.

Please feel free to contact the Department of Natural Resources at 515-725-8200 if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Jeff Kopaska
Administrator, DNR Special Events

Jack

Does our DNR people realize how dumb this policy is considering the size of most of the hunts are today. If more than 10 people are at each event, each club would be responsible for not letting more than 10 people inside their clubhouse at any given time. Hunters at an event would/should be considerate about not 'grouping' together inside a club house. We could have bench shows outside as many do anyway or even take hunt entries outside before we disperse to go hunting. Clubs would be responsible for this happening or they would be subject to being charged for allowing too many people to converge in close quarters.

Do you think it would do any good for clubs around the state to call Jeff to let him know about how this could or would work for us hunters, if they would release our permits. We're not going to be infecting a large group of people or anyone that don't feel good should be staying home anyway. If someone does guide at a public area, we wouldn't be sitting or eating on their benches or picnic tables, we would just be taking a walk in the woods.

Just a thought about trying to get our permits back. Take care, Ron.

Ron
I have explained it to them. Jeff is fully aware of our numbers he even brought it up the first time to let us have the hunts and he was over ruled. I'm in the process of trying to find out who's making the decisions to pull the permits to see if I can discuss it with them.

Thanks

For trying to find out who is not letting us enjoy an outdoor hunt by ordering him to pull our permits. I can't understand why these politicians that don't know anything about our enjoyment think that we need to be penalized because they want to be in control. if there is anyone I need to contact, feel free to let me know. Or our governor needs a lot less votes next fall. Take care, Ron.

I was amazed to find out how political the state DNR's are. They have a hierchy or chain of command. You will find officers who realize what hunting is all about and officers who don't have a clue. You will find officers who actually care about hunters and ones who are on a real power trip. They can be real hard to deal with. A lot of times it is best to find out who your friends are and who isn't. You have to be as political as they are.

Are there other kinds of events that fall in line with the same permit? Waterfowl, upland bird, fishing tournaments? Just curious.

Ron I think the governor is doing a good job. We could be like Michigan , illinois, New York or California. Kim has nothing to do with the permits getting pulled I'm working on getting them reinstated. Or at least get them not to be extended any further. Have patience. And yes all working dog permits have been pulled weather water fowl or upland bird trials.

I have a friend that does a few Walleye tournaments and they are cancelled also.

I can see why he fishes for Walleye as they are much harder to catch than trout!

I have been told that the way to get your hunts approved is to first contact your local or state health dept and explain exactly how your hunts will/can be held following CDC guidelines. If you get their approval, then you have something to argue with. If the Health Dept approves, the Wildlife people don't have anything to base their disapproval on.
