Spot on!! Its about the process, not the win!!
Competition breeds excellency. Its the highest form of Kinsmanship. Give 2 kids 2 piles of rocks, before long one will see who can be hitting what, who can throw faster, who can throw further. Over time each kid will be throwing more accurately, faster, and further.
Its all about the process, fall in love with the process and the wins will come. Only a fool thinks its about the win, and will cut corners to improve there odds to win.
As the great Joe PA said," Success without honer is an unseasoned dish it will satisfy you hunger but wont taste good."
So to sum it up, I would say its about having better dogs, improving, and forming friendships. Having something to work towards, and look forward. The sad part is when someone gets handed a loss, and they whine and complain about how they have been cheated. Losing is part of the process, its the pain of a loss that drives one to work harder, improve and breed excellency.
Comps are also a measuring stick for breeders. A breeder that is producing top hounds will obv have more wins then a breeder who is producing garbage. There are probably other reasons for comps, but these are just a few I can think of.
