Trevor

If dog A is treed, 3 minutes is up that tree is now closed. Then dog B falls treed in the same area, it will be considered split. When cast arrives dog B is treed with dog A & that tree is slick. Is the the correct scoring?

A/ -125 & his strike
B/ -125 &-25 & his strike

Poor dog B...
Dog A is treed
After only 3 minutes tree is closed
Dog B now comes treed and his not so smart handler trees him for 125. When cast arrives Dog B is on Dog A's tree and it is slick.
Dog A is minused strike and tree.
Dog B is minused 125 for supposedly leaving his tree.
Then Dog B is assigned and minused 25 tree and his strike for backing Dog A on a slick tree.

Under the old rules, Dog B would have been assigned and minused 75 tree points for backing on a slick tree. This is one of the unintended consequences of the tree countdown. There will now be a strategy involved as to when you tree your dog. Do you take first tree for 125 or wait 2 minutes and tree for 25 if you think your dog has treed a possum or a slick.

Name calling????

Sorry Mr Yaeger, I guess that I am not very PC. Does this sound better?

In my humble opinion, treeing your dog on a closed tree is not a very smart move for a handler to make. You risk getting minused 125 and you can always still tree your dog when it is obvious that it is split and is going to stay.

Not that this couldn't happen but the handler can't declare is dog split. The judge makes that call. And if the dog was actually split but pulled to dog A's tree than it needs to be minus anyway. And if you're leading the cast and only way you can be beat is by getting minus points then yes the correct call is to wait for last tree to tree your dog.
