Heat cycle

I’ve got a 16 month female that hasn’t come into heat yet?
Should I be concerned?

I guess you could be concerned if you want but not a whole lot you can do about it. Id say she may not come in until she's 3-4 or may never come in. On the other side I've seen them come right in with the changing of dogfood or anything of that nature.

Some have silent heat cycles so she may have and you never noticed because of a lack of blood and very little swelling. Regular heat cycles can be missed too on some with shorter heats and that aren't house where you may notice the dripping especially if there is little swelling which is common in young females. Older females are much more likely to swell much larger than the young. Females come here almost on the weekly and through this we've noticed huge degrees of variations in signs of heat though all are in the height of their estrus cycle and are ready for breeding.
The very best way to bring one in is to find a female that cycles regularly and to house yours with her during the others cycle. It may pain me to say this but dogs are no different than cows or women, when together their cycles will change to be in line with one another. I will also add that if she is housed in an indoor kennel get her to where she can be in the sunlight when she chooses. Light plays a huge roll in natural hormone production affecting all sorts of things controlled by the pituitary and the hypothalamus of the brain. Also, diet look into her diet underweight females and those that may have a parasite infection along with the other side of the spectrum being overweight can cause them to not cycle correctly. Think extreme athletic women, under weight due to eating disorders and the obese are very likely to not cycle at all. A healthy weight good amount of exercise and healthy diet with adequate vitamin intake are all needed for optimal results for estrus, pregnancy and whelping.
Bottom line change diet if needed, add a good multi vitamin, exercise and find a friend who will let you bring your female over when it is in heat.
