I have a Garmin 200 alpha and have down loaded a few maps for birdseye view. This unit is new and up to date on the software. When I zoom in on the maps there is a delay to see the map and dog. If I change screens from the map and go back to the map there is a delay. Is this normal, or is there something I can do to help?

I would only download what you need and as easy as it is. I wouldn't keep areas downloaded I am not hunting for a week or two. More you put in the more it slows down.

I wish I could say 100% yes but I can't. I do know mine has very little hesitation when zooming in or out.
The problem usually comes from information overload in the handheld. That can come from several different things One is archived dog tracks in your handheld. Found on your home page. Go to track manager. You will see a list of Archived dog tracks. Sometimes that list can get long and you should keep them deleted. You have to do them one at a time and it can get boring. But is useful to keep your system running efficiently. I hate to suggest that you undo anything but I would suggest you delete a few of the birdseye downloads and see if it speeds up.
There are a couple advantages to the Birdseye card and some disadvantages also. Birdseye alone does not give me enough detail as far as small roads and trails. The preloaded topo map on your handheld is slightly different than the TOPO on birdseye card. Areas of the country are different but down here it does not have the details of a lot of these dirt roads. When I use the birdseye state card. It has birdseye and 24k topo on it. You see them both together to give you better detail. That's a biggie form me to know the roads I can get down to cut off our deer/fox hounds.
I will agree that the hesitation when zooming in is a pain in the neck. I have the FL state card. If I am hunting in another state for a few days. I download just where I am going to be. Then delete it when I am done. That's the beauty of being able to download straight to the handheld. You don't keep a bunch of maps on your system you don't need.
Hey Brian, that sounds frustrating! Delays can definitely take away from the experience. I haven't used that particular Garmin model, but sometimes map rendering can be processor-intensive. Maybe try reducing the detail level of the Birdseye maps to see if that helps? Or perhaps it's just waiting for the Crazy Cattle 3D herd to load! Just kidding (sort of!). Hope you find a solution!
The delay you’re seeing on the Alpha 200 is normal, especially with Birdseye imagery loaded. High-detail satellite maps always slow the redraw. Reducing imagery resolution, removing unused layers, or using TopoActive maps instead will speed things up noticeably. MapQuest Driving Directions
Yes, that delay is normal on the Alpha 200 series, especially with Birdseye imagery. High-resolution raster maps load slower than vector maps. To reduce lag, limit the number of Birdseye yahoo maps layers, lower imagery resolution, or switch to Topo maps when speed matters. The hardware simply isn’t optimized for fast redraws.
