Facebook Uproar

There is a post going around Facebook that shows two beagles in a wire crate, that would be used in the house, strapped onto a cargo hauler that is attached to the hitch of a Tahoe. It is raining in the picture. As of right now there has been 96,984 shares and 10,000 comments. As you would guess most comments are bad. This is the type of thing all houndsmen need to avoid because now we have 96k people who think people who hunt with dogs do not care about the dogs. Bad publicity can turn people who were indifferent towards us into people who will join the anti groups to have our rights taken away.

I think 96k shares is pretty big. I guess if all your friends are coonhunters you probably won’t see it because they won’t share it...

What they didn't say on the post is the vehicle was owned by HSUS and they were the ones filming it.

Former HSUS Insider Arrested for Armed Robbery!!!

It could soon be time to add a new name to the list of HSUS-linked criminals: Scotlund Haisley, who used to run HSUS’s animal rescue team. Haisley is alleged to have robbed a Washington, D.C. Subway restaurant twice in less than a week. it’s quite a fall from a six-figure job to allegedly robbing a restaurant for $300.

Haisley has an extensive background in the animal rights movement. Notably, he held positions at PETA and HSUS, where he was the Director of Emergency Services. He later ran Animal Rescue Corps.

During his time with HSUS, Haisley appears to have been an adrenaline junkie and wannabe SWAT team member. Roughly ten years ago, Haisley was instrumental in helping HSUS execute a search warrant and seize 172 dogs. That warrant was later ruled to be illegal and HSUS faced a $5 million dollar lawsuit as a result.

Even worse, HSUS didn’t stick around to actually help the dogs. As we covered back then:

Less than one week after the raid, KELO-TV reported that HSUS had already packed its bags and left, leaving the local Second Chance Rescue folks to find volunteers to help care for the scores of dogs.

Second Chance Rescue’s director admits that 28 dogs died in the group’s care following their seizure. And while none of the dogs were sick when they were seized, many became ill after HSUS left town.

While working with HSUS, Haisley used some questionable tactics that earned him praise from the former HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle. As recounted by people who worked with him:

Graves and Schwartz explained to Cox that they were particularly concerned that Haisley had asked them to wear badges resembling those worn by law enforcement officers, and that this could expose them to legal liability.

“I want the scum to think we are law enforcement,” Graves said Haisley told them.

Graves and Schwartz then took their concern to then-Humane Society of the U.S. president Wayne Pacelle.

“I like the cowboy ways that Scotlund brings to the team,” Graves said Pacelle responded.

“Cowboy ways” is a colorful way to describe Haisley’s behavior. The surveillance footage of the robberies shows the suspect may have held a gun to a Subway employee’s head. That’s more like “outlaw ways.”

Another old Pacelle pal, David Wills, is awaiting trial on child sex charges. Wills is a former HSUS VP who was fired after he embezzled money from the organization. Given Pacelle’s associates and Pacelle’s own history—allegations of sexual harassment going back years—it’s worth wondering what other skeletons are in HSUS’s closet, and who in the leadership has knowledge of them.

ive seen the video youre talking about... it was shared 10x over by several rescues groups or lost pet pages in my area... with similar comments from them. it wasnt very long ago i got in a pretty lengthy discussion with one of the same type people who had the same outlook on people who hunt with dogs as many who commented. she said "ive seen how hunters treat hunting dogs, its appalling" i tried to explain "youve seen how a particular person treats their dogs, to most they are a huge investment and are taken care of better than most back yard pets"... theres nothing in the video (other than the fact theyre beagles) that suggest theyre hunting dogs, and they immediately point the finger at dog hunters. i am very careful as to what i post because of this. i never post pics of coons or my dogs in their pens or anything because im always afraid someone might take it the wrong way. even though im doing nothing wrong. i follow the hunting laws and my dogs are taken care of.

You are showing wisdom beyond your age. Never should we let our egos give the anti groups fuel off their fire. Yes, we have freedom of speech, but why harm ourselves. There are many non hunters who are neutral and I prefer to keep them either neutral or on our side, not appalled by pictures we post of dead animals. Most people realize that all wildlife must be controlled, they just don't want to see our "trophies". We can just enjoy them privately. Anyone who really wants to help should consider adopting a pet from a from a local shelter or donating food or other needed items. We can make a big impact if we start at the local level and show people our good side and educate them on the value hunting does for all wildlife species in controlling predators. Dave

it wasn't staged. The young man belongs to a facebook rabbit dog group I'm in. He's just using poor judgment in my opinion.

Perhaps someone who knows him from this group could constructively have a conversation with him and make him aware of the damage that can be done when we don't think before we post. Wether it be pictures or just the plain words we use. Like it or not, the world we live in is not that of our fathers and grandfathers. We're well into a second generation of folks whose only knowledge of hunting, fishing or trapping anything is very limited.

From the time I was a little boy my father impressed upon me the fact that their is so much more to hunting, fishing and trapping then just the taking of the game or fish we pursued. If we want to keep the privilege............yes I said privilege because that is what it is........to hunt, fish and trap we better become good at public relations. I applaud those who are already working hard to educate the public and younger people regarding ethical hunting, fishing and trapping and the respect of the landowners who allow us on their property.

I didn't see it don't want to. But if I would have been there I would have took $5 out of my wallet and got the young man a cheap tarp showed him how to put it on to keep his dogs dry instead of taking pictures.

Ive seen the walker dog in the crate on the back of the SUV.
Ive also seen the screen shots put on FB by the Director of the Union County Animal Shelter of the hounds who are left tied out in the rain, mud and cold, on 2 foot chains, at SETWD. NOT COOL!
We really need to be better examples to these folks!

The pictures are out there, all 20+ , whether you see them or not.

Just sayin".....

What in the world was the Director of the Animal Shelter doing at SETWA? I was traveling once with 2 hounds in crates on the back of a motor home. We stopped at CB to eat and tied the dogs out. When we came out a police car was parked beside us and a deputy was looking at them. He said that he had gotten a complaint and had to come check it out. Then he said that they were awfully good looking hounds and he was sorry to bother us. You never know when some idiot is watching you.

It wasn't a good look for sure and it wasn't a place to be hauling his dogs. Dumb move and it is done by people all the time. We are our worst enemy but they do not need to take pics like that to hurt us. Our own guys are posting plenty of their own all over facebook. Really guys show a pic of the dog, take a pic of the coon in the tree. If you want hold the dog with the coon laid out in front, but stop posting pics and videos of dog actually killing the coon.

There is no Right to Hunt, Fish or Trap within the Constitution of the United States. There are a some states however who have put the right to hunt and fish in their respective state constitutions. I think your state of TN is one of them.

Check this link. Towards the end of it they list some of the states that have passed laws about the right to hunt and fish. The article is about North Carolina trying to get it passed in their state in 2018.
