Larry A?

Larry what's your thoughts on this? Would you make a cross like this?

IF I make this cross it's still two years down the road. Just wondering what your thoughts were on this?

Line bred lobo. I can't remember what lobo was out of. The dogs I started out with were heavy dohoney bred. My favorite was out of dohoneys banjo and a daughter of crows boss he was the first ntch I ever made had a marble when he located.

I will get Corey to put a picture of him on here of him and my trophys and I was skinny lol.

Lobo was off of Dohoney's Boone and Dohoney's Misty... Misty was a Lipper female.

Sassy was off of Southern Pines Jet and Cedar Run Jammin Ginger... Ginger was a daughter to Boone.

Howdy Hobo,

That is about as high as I would go. Of course, I don't have any details as to any potential problems that may or may not creak out of the wood pile.

Willis states it is best to shoot for a COI of 20% and less. You know the details (individual traits) of all or most of those dogs in that pedigree. You should know better than anyone else. Have faith in your knowledge. One of the best selection tools available to breeders is their collective knowledge of a family of dogs.

My plan is to make the cross and keep a male off of it. When I do this my females will need at least 50% outside blood wouldn�t they?

I would go that route and also try a one or two complete outcrosses. Then weigh your options from both outcomes.

One of the things I like to look for are a good line that basically has several foundation animals that are similar. I was interested in old Sackett before Jay existed for that very reason. Then Jay fit the bill even better than Sackett.

I enjoying seeing a breeder who is more interested in preserving a line of dogs, than making a fast buck breeding to the flavor of the month. Kudos to you and Larry A, both knowledgeable regarding breeding for the best. Dave

When I first bought Lobo from Mike Dohoney as a pup my plan was to try and get into the breeding side of it. I was single no kids no wife and no worries. LOL Three years I was married with a 11 year old step daughter... So I sold Lobo knowing I wouldn't be able to give him the chance that he really deserved. Luckily for me Mike Blackburn sold me his half of Lobo back three years later.

I've tried hard to not mess up what Mike Dohoney had been breeding for years. I never intended to breed back to Lobo as heavy as I have it just worked out this way.

I am bless with several good friends that have helped me out of the years and are still helping me out. I'm still trying hard not to mess up what I bought from Dohoney way back.
