2019 Grand American Show Judges

2019 Grand American Show Judges

We are thankful to the following three individuals for agreeing to judge our shows this coming January
Friday’s judge will be John Boyter SR
John lives in Woodruff, South Carolina with his wife, Kay. They have been married for forty-seven years and have two children, a daughter, Kim Henderson, and son, John Boyter Jr., as well as five grand-daughters ranging from age 2 years to 14 years old. They currently have seven Treeing Walker coonhounds, one Plott coonhound, and a Jack Russell that rules the house.
After graduating from high school, John joined the Navy and served two tours in Vietnam. He came home in 1969 and met his wife, Kay. Her dad, Lloyd Johnson, was an avid coonhunter and introduced John to coonhunting who has been hunting and showing dogs ever since. John’s first hunting dog was a male Redbone that Kay’s dad gave him. After that, he gave him a female redbone to show in 1972. John have hunted English, Redbone, and Treeing Walker hounds. John and Kay started Bens Creek Kennel in 2000. Shortly after that time, due to health problems, he had to stop hunting and now only shows dogs. Both say they have had the gratification of showing dogs and teaching their grandchildren to love and show dogs. Both agree they have been blessed to have some good hounds to hunt and show through the years.
“I have had the pleasure to judge UKC, AKC and ACHA events and look forward to being a part of the 2019 Grand American in Orangeburg, South Carolina. I would like to thank David McKee Cleo Bowers, and the staff for the honor of judging the 2019 Grand American Coonhound Bench Show on Friday.”

Saturday Youth Show-
From Rockingham NC, Cynthia Grooms has owned and raised Blueticks since 2001. She started in coonhounds when she got her first coonhound, a Redbone named Scarlett, at 6 weeks old. She began showing and then got bit by the bug. Scarlett finished to GRCH by 10 months old. Blueticks came into the picture a year later with the matriarch, Elvira. The Bluetick reign began with the help of John Earp and a breeding to his male, Trouble. The rest, they say, is history and it's still going strong.
Cynthia has been involved in showing, hunting, and raising coonhounds for 17 years. She got her bench show license in order to help her local club and from there has gone on to judge several events including: NC, VA, SC and GA state championships, Grand American, Winter Classic, NC & WV State Youth Championships, NC State BBOA youth championship, BBCHA Fall Round Up and many other events.
Most recently she has started working on Barn Hunts and has Adele Farm Dog Certified, as well as other exciting areas outside of the show and hunting arenas.
"As an exhibitor, breeder and a judge I feel that adherence to breed standards, as best as one can, is a cornerstone of creating and maintaining a hound that can be put to the test in both pleasure and competition and be able to withstand the rigorous regimen required to perform for years to come."

Saturdays Show-
Alan Kalal
"I have been hunting these Walkers for over 45 years now. I have judged Autumn Oaks, Winter Classic, UKC World, Walker Days, Southeastern Walker Days and many many State Championships, now it is an honor to get asked to Judge the Grand American Looking forward to it. I am a Supervisor at an Asphalt Construction Company, Married with three step kids and three grandchildren. Thanks for the opportunity to Judge the Grand American."
