Watching the news last night. Saw where veterinarianshave found that grain free dog food is responsible for heart disease in dogs. Didn't say anything about thyroids though.
And we have a new disease in dogs in Charlottesville Va. 22 dogs have come down with it and it's suppose to resemble whooping cough. They are wanting dog owners to isolate their dogs until the disease goes away. Wonder whats next.

Yea Trump is probably right. Fake news. But if you see it on the news or computer it's suppose to be the truth. They did say it lacked the proper amino acids for good canine health. So if your dog gets listless and just lays around maybe you've been feeding too many beans and taters. Might be my problem. If I could afford steak I'd find out. Right now it's mater sandwiches and enjoying every bite.

i read an article about that as well... i was kinda confused by some of the info in the article though...

Heart disease in dogs, just as people can be/lead to one of a few things- heart valve disease, cardiac arrest, valvular aortic stenosis, dilated cardiomyopathy, pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure... most can show up with loss of appetite, drastic weight loss, weakness, rapid breathing, shortness of breath, fatigue, sudden/drastic drops in blood pressure, coughing and collapsing.

they're pointing at dilated cardiomyopathy- (enlarged heart) as being linked to those feeds... but my question is, how?... since in the article i read it states: "High levels of legumes or potatoes appear to be more common in diets labeled as 'grain-free,' but it is not yet known how these ingredients are linked to cases of DCM,' it added."

i'm also curious why you would "isolate until the disease goes away" since no form of heart disease is contagious nor would go away...?

Amanda the isolate case was the whooping cough disease that has appeared in Va. It wasn't related to the heart disease.

You have to be careful about this stuff. They said it was linked but they were not sure how yet? Companies pull some dirty tricks sometimes, it wouldn't take much for one of the dog food companies to leak something like that to the news. We all know how much news agencies fact check before they release a article. It might be true and then again it might not be.

The report on the dog food was on NBC Nightly News and the report on the Whooping cough disease was on Fox8 News. They didn't give any of the doctors names that did the research. Thought some might find it interesting instead of the sarcastic replies. Sorry I brought it to your attention.

YADKIN not directing anything at you bud it is kinda like believing in polls, THEY try and shape public opinion not actually see what the public opinion actually is. I have never been polled and neither have any of my family members or our close friends , and all of them are registered voters and most of them have lived in the same place for 20 - 50 years.

Thank you for posting this information, it at least let's us be aware of the information. What one does with the info is up to them, we all know that some feeds have killed dogs in the past [fact] and new diseases tend to pop up in the human and animal world on a regular basis.
