Good one!

I have bred to him twice. As far as the reproducing he is as good as it gets. That doesn't mean every female will cross with him.

BOCEPHUS PUPS

I have 2 males here off Bocephus and different females. They treed their on easy coon by 9 months old, naturally hate coon and prefer them and were naturally straight or easy to break from off game. Big Motor, Big Mouth, Good Looking Hounds that sound like hounds should. Very Accurate. When first starting to tree may locate a bunch of times and be a little slow to settle but once they have their confidence built up they will grab a tree close or deep as fast as anybody's hound and have the coon. Mine hunt hard and fast until struck. They usually are struck within half mile but if not will go to about a mile then start to loop back my way but not the same way they went in. It will look like a big paper clip on the Garmin. They will get a hundred or so yards one way or the other when they start back my way. Very intense tree dogs. Good nose and know how to use it, if track bogs down will drift out and pick it up or find another. Sometimes will scribble a little dot on the Garmin for a few minutes but they aren't opening or Boo Hooing around, they checking trees and if not found within a few minutes they will blast out of there. They Bond with their owner and Love to Please. Very smart. I have hunted with 3 other males from Bocephus and different females and they also had the Big Motor, Big Mouth and Accurate. One of them is in Kentucky right now trying to win the Big Money and I'm pretty sure Johnny Brown is there with Bocephus as well. I think he is about 8 years old now and that's pretty impressive to me the owner still putting him in the Big Hunts and breeding a lot of females. I have only met Johnny one time and he is a fine fellow. I said over 2 years ago and I will say it again, when Bocephus time is up and we are 15 years or more from now we will still be feeling the impact he is having on the breed in a Positive Way. He is the next JBS Chief of the Blueticks.

Stud dog

Hard hunting, fast hunters, really good track dogs, solid pressure type tree dogs. Big mouths, dogs with brains enough to handle there nose. Tree coons any way you can at a early age. Independent but not stupid independent. Will go deep if they have to, but don't run pass coons just to get by their selves.

Hunting a gyp out of Bocephus and just pulled her off a tree with a coon. 1.2 miles from where I sent her from. She is a loud hard treedog.

I have heard feedback from an owner of a Bocephus dog that some (not all) tend to be later bloomers. Even though that being the case for his hound, he said once the hound started it came on quick and has made a well above average hound. I realize the gyp plays a huge part as well. One thing is for sure, Bocephus and his offspring have proven and are continuing to prove they can get it done at a high level!

I tip my hat and say CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Johnny Brown for continuing to hunt Bocephus in hunts like what are going on in Ky. this week. He is getting his share amongst some of the most elite competition to be found.

Late starting myth

This is funny to me I told everybody that got a pup out of the last litter they might be a little late starting. Coon hunters got a lot of kid in them. Every one of them took there pup home at 8 weeks old and layed drags and they all acted like they had been doing it all there lives. Just goes to show you.

One thing is for sure, not two are the same, & not all of them will make it. The finished product is/will be the ultimate measuring stick.

All good & bad usually gets hung on to the stud dog. At the end of the day, I'm a firm believer the female plays a bigger part in the offspring characteristics.

Not trying to self promote...

Over Bocephus but wanted to post a link to Big Country Blueticks. Big Country is an offspring of Bocephus. Check out Steve Bankston's Bogue Chitto Blueticks posts on the Bluetick Stud dog page as well his thread will tell you as much as you will find out anywhere. It's a good read too.

Zero is a son of bocephus.

I believe Vic is referring to what I told him about zero. I told him Zero was a later bloomer. Im not talking about treeing drags..or treeing one easy coon every other week.

I'm talking about the whole package... he was a tree dog first and foremost.. early on- treeing on every tree he smelled coon on- mostly dens n lots of them- he wasn't a natural track dog.... It took many trips to the woods where he learned to work a track right.. he was a 2 year old dog before he was consistently treeing 4 or 5 coons a night for me.

Total package/ready for night hunts for me is

1) Not leaving a tree
2) treeing 4 to 5 coon a night (2 hours)consistently solo
3) Will not come back to check in
4) will not return to a previously scored tree

Zero was over 2 years old before he had the above qualifications I like to have.

Sure he treed an easy coon WAY before that. Guess its all about how you define "early starter"

I've had 4 or 5 of bocephus- traits I've noticed

1) Tight on the ground- Not silent, but tight
2) good tree instinct
3) Good mouths
4) above average intelligence
5) Hunt with head up, not looking for the coon that walked yesterday
6) Quick locator
7) Due to #7, misses some

look on the Pkc bluetick race- bocephus is still there- Zero has been in the top 16 for the last several years

I think its awesome that Johnny brown is hunting Bocephus..

bocephus was high scoring blue male at a ukc world hunt

I AGREE W MR. BANKSTON, BOCEPHUS IS MAKING HIS MARK

Bodacious

We started several in Bodacious' litter being they were out of our Razor Ridge female, Pop A Dot and Troy Sheffield's Echo II, and on average, they started between 11 and 14 mths, so it definitely is in the blood to potentially start a little later. They also have it in their blood to be track driving machines, so it's just what you really want. As stated not all of them make it either, but that's any bloodline if people are honest.

The Flo x Bocephus cross produced 4 nice treedogs. Three finished to nt ch one grand nt. Currently I have a Ruby x Bocephus pup that I have high hopes for. Ruby is a littermate to Flo. Also a Trudy x Botox puppy that I will be starting this spring. Most of the hounds I've hunted for the past 25 years have had similar ancestory.

Did you breed Sadie to Diamond Jim II ? If so how did that cross compare to the Bodacious x Sadie cross? I've got a couple of females that are out of brothers to Jim II that I think would cross good on Mr. Blue and was just wondering how that has worked out in the past.

Sorry I haven't been on much Bodacious cross was better that little jim! Little Jim was one hell of a COON DOG! he was raised close to my house by a good friend of mine Doug Liegh, I have seen Jim do as good work as any dog that lived but him and Sadie didnt line up reel well . Their were some good pups off that cross but it took a couple years for their mouth to come around Thier were at least 3 grand nts out of her and Bo which reproduced( Very inportant) Dizzie is at # 7 at this time.
