Hard Runnin Possums

Anybody read that play by play last night ? Same ole...struck in front of the cast and treed a mile away in a few mins...on a possum ! Now I don't mind trash breaking a dog but the bigger problem is what were they doing to get a mile away to begin with. I lived to competition hunt for a long time but what it's turning into isn't my idea of coon huntin.

Maybe I'll stick to pleasure huntin lol. Where you at Tar I know you read that too lol...

Hemi got one a lot closer than that the other night I had just turned him out I had my nose stuck in the Garmin all a sudden it showed him 60 yards and setting down I looked up just in time to see him shaking it like he was proud of it I hit the spit it out button hard enough he came and got in the truck I wasn't even mad but if I walked a mile to one treed on a possum I would be foaming mad lol.

How many coons did that dog pass up in that mile ?

Tar

Donnie

Welcome to today's competition hunting, it's not very pretty! If you can stomach that sort of hunting, I can not. Dave

Three dogs treed a possum 1 mile deep while 4th dog treed 2 coons right where they turned loose. You left that part out.

Three coons actually. Maybe bonus points need to be awarded for dogs that tree coons the closest to the cast lol. What would be the logic behind wanting to hunt any kind of game a mileaway.Wouldn't closer always mean better ???

Here you have a perfect example of a score card dog vs a coon dog. And folks will line up to breed to the ghost striking, run by tracks to get away, deep and lonely because he's winning a high percentage of casts in a game that promotes such behavior. No thanks for me personally.

Boys that coon was in rut, he had already done the coons close to the truck and was fixing to do those opossums (that's where armadillos come from ) he carried those opossums along to get the dogs off his trail

That makes as much sense as thinking those automatic strike dogs are running a coon. Lol. Dave

Personally, I do not need the money. Coon hunting is my hobby and not my profession. I could not tolerate the type of hound required to win in today's hunts. If they suit you, that's all that matters. Lol. Dave

I am in no way promoting $kc or any kc for that matter but I do promote hard hunters and good dogs so let's atleast be fair about this and tell the whole story. I will admit if you just glance over the play by play it doesn't sound that great BUT the 4 dogs in the cast scored 550+ 425+ 325+ 200+ on Friday night. Then they had already hunted one round on Saturday night and scored 300+ 200+ 175+ 175+. And the final cast didn't cut loose til 2am in the pouring rain and the winner had 275+ the other dogs made a few mistakes as most dogs do. I would gladly feed any of the dogs in that cast.

I agree with most of the paragraph. I still believe a get gone and under a raccoon will win. Now a mile through the country on a possum won't work for this ol man. I like the hounds that slide right past the slick trees & slick tails.

I am not saying they are bad dogs they are just D O G S not GODS. And there is nothing wrong with a good possum dog either. All of us love hunting or we wouldn't do it. Have fun no matter what.

Here's the deal. At most hunts the barkers do exactly what was done in the late round of that hunt. Its the barkers that will tree coon in any conditions is the ones to really watch for. Yes the honest strike dogs can and still do win. If they didn't you'd see everyone hunting barkers. Take it for what its worth, but if you have a dog that will tree you 2 coon in a 2 hour hunt with very few mistakes you'll win more than you lose.
