About 20 years ago I bought an older female (about 8) from a buddy of mine. She was a nt ch but hadn't been hunted in almost 5 years. I had just sold a couple young dogs and only bought her cause I knew she was a decent dog when she was younger. Only hunted her about a month and she got coonhound paralysis. Obviously I had reservations about nursing a dog that old thru that process but we did anyway. It took a long time before she was strong enough to hunt but she went on to make Gr Nr winning ten casts in a row without drawing a minus of any kind on those ten casts and got passed around to a couple of my buddies to start pups with til she died at 13. Tough old girl. Gr Nt Ch Scotian Jill.

I have a black female 12 and half. At one point Saturday night she was 1.2 miles deep. Circled way around and treed about 0.8 miles. Other dogs were already back in the truck. Been going that deep for years. It gets old in these mountains, but I like her.
I videoed her treeing for a minute last month and she barked about 45-50 barks. I found a similar video from 6 years ago and it was a 110 barks a minute. So she has slowed down in some respects. Coon in both trees so I guess all is good!

Jesse I wouldn't say that. A good buddy has an 12 yr old dog that will walk you to deaths door step if you let him. He also has aa 9 coming 10 yr old male that is about as tough as they come. I have a 9 yr old female that's pretty decent dog that can flat fly on a track. She's nothing real flashy, or makes you go "wow". But if I could hunt dogs identical to her or the males mentioned for the rest of my life I'd be happy.

Believe me I'd rather have a good OL dog than have to start a young one! All I have is a 14 month old pup she has a lot of good qualities but the jury is still out! First time in a long time I've been without a older coon treer. JesseJ

I have a 12 year old went over 2 miles on Christmas Eve he is falling apart physically but every time he sees me load up dogs he gets wound up like a puppy he has flaws but is the tuffest 12 year old I know of. I’ve been trying to find something to take his spot since he was 2 and haven’t found it yet .

Redneck Mafia 11 yrs old and it's a tuff life he lives lol. He still loves to go hunting even though he doesn't get to go very often, still treeing coons and can walk your guts out. He doesn't take off like a rocket anymore but makes running a track good or bad look easy and seldom misses. This pic Dalton sent me last night he took him to his house yesterday to hunt with a couple of young pups he is starting. He may never want to come home if he gets a king size bed over there!

My old Howler dog would walk you to death at 10 years old. She had arthritis so bad after the first tree she would be limping on all 4 feet. Cut her again and she would still walk you to death. She died just before she turned 11.

Got one that just turned 15. F.R. bred. When he was 12 he would put young dogs to shame. He has started missing some and don't really feel like hunting, but he thinks he still wants to go. Still getting pups!
