Ok it's that time of the year again... what new crosses are being planned for 2018?

Over the winter after the easy coon have been treed and the weather gets nasty it seems that the board gets more active....
So who is planning a redbone cross over the next year?
What's the cross and what are you hoping for or predicting from it?
Will it be a line bred cross or an outcross. Is it a new cross or a repeat cross?
I have somewhat kept track of a lot planned crosses and predictions over the last 5 or 6 years. I know they don't all live up the the hype or predictions...but it's good to have goals and gives us something to reach for as breeders and it gives others a chance to watch the process as it unfolds. So let's hear what you got planned or are thinking about. Heck, even if you don't own the male or female...make a suggestion for a cross you would like to see happen. Who knows...maybe the owners might think about making that cross ....

I'll be breeding my steve-o x chilli female to woody. She seems to be throwing early starters. Her first litter was to aftershock. Those pups started early and are tree dogs. They're only 16 months old. Kind of hoping for the same results with woody. I've tried keeping up with some of his pups. He seems to throw early starting tree dogs with tons of drive.

Luke that should be a great cross. I hunted Woody for quite a while and placed him 8th and 12th in two diffwrent world championships...he truly is a powerhouse competition dog. I bred the first female to him and later Bred my Moonlight Breanna female to him. Unfortunately she had pups a few days early while I was at work and may have had a problem because all but one was dead when I got home from work...but that one pup is year old Nite Champion Moonlight Banshee and she is making a very special dog that has us pretty excited. I've also hunted with 3 dogs from the Steve-O x Chili cross and all three were nice dogs. Don't think you can go wrong crossing those two dogs. Good luck!

Cross

I just made a cross on my Roxi - Kentucky Kate x Rocky top Jet on nitech Morans Midnight Country Bandit - locked n loaded Jake x locked n loaded Pebbles . Both carry big mouths both are big dog's and pressure tree dog's with plenty of grit to spare . Bandit has everything she lacks and they should compliment each other well . She has 4 male's 2 female's . Roxi is a solid meat dog that has everything but real hard drive unless she strikes but can get lazy if sat up . Bandit is all drive and your gonna pull him off a tree somewhere . He is being hunted up now and is liable to make a ruckus in the South Georgia are next year . I don't know what will come of this cross or if I can get them in the right hands but I'm sure they should turn out to be above average coon dog's.

Terry,s twisting lightning x moonlight may

I plan on doing this in her next heat . As long as I can get her to Nevergone in time. Both r coon both have big loud mouths both will go solo as far as it takes to tree coon and both are deadly accurate. Both tree coons here as good as they do in coon zoo witch is hard to come by. Will be total out cross

They will be too much for an old man like me. I will see how much of a demand there really is for a cross like this. It has been my experience that you see a lot of people "saying" that they want a lot of drive but only one or two really do. It is mostly just talk. In my limited experience, there are a very few exceptions but the majority of Redbone hunters just want a balanced hound that will tree the first track that it comes to. They don't want an extreme hound that leaves the country. But we will see. This will be an experimental cross.

We're going to make a grandfather to granddaughter cross this year, maybe 2. The male is 12 now so might not work. My buddy bred a female to him last winter and got pups so we'll keep our fingers crossed. Chris Osborne has a pup from that cross that just turned 8 months old and has been to the woods three times and split with a coon twice so far.

As I said, I am not as knowledgeable as the big time breeders. I am curious to see just how many will be willing to spend the money for a high drive bred pup.

Haven't decided on a price but I won't give them away. If anyone thinks that a pup like I raise isn't worth $500 they need to raise, train, hunt and selectively breed a line of dogs for 20 yrs and raise their own pups. See how much that costs you.
Do you think that I charge too much?
