Age start pups

Ok, I;m and old guy that's getting beck into night hunting, Ive been around all hounds since I was a kid. Beagles were my last hounds til my boys growed up and the dogs got old. I'm back into the night hunting. when I was a kid you was get a pup started and run him run him run him. there were no electronic correction, lots of deer here and a lot of hard love at times. I don't really know if we had any good coon dogs, I just know we had dogs that ran and treed, had nothing to compare with? so now I have recently got a timber chopper gyp and she is approaching 5 mos, I have showed her a live coon, she went coon crazy at 11 weeks
,left it out and let her go 5 mins later and she chased, did not tree and did not open, 11 weeks old. did one drag with a hide 200yrds and made it short climb trees, she found it and barked treed for about 5 mins. after reading walk with wick, I have ceased all fake and easy training. the question is what do I do next? she is 5mos old 11-25-17, has a great nose and is very interested, just don't want to mess her up? thanks for the help

That's a little young to do much with. Even if they show the desire ...you risk a setback or worse if they have a bad experience at that age. I usually let em be a pup and explore and take em for walks till they are between 6 and 7 months before I try to start them or hunt them with another dog. Sometimes 8-10 months because I want them to be physically a little more mature than what a 5 mo old can be. Keep the lessons short and exciting and don't let the pup get bit by a coon or hurt in another way and don't try to hunt it too much or too often until it's over a year old. Most can be hunted about as much as you want by the time they are 15-18 months...if they act serious about it without it bothering them physically. But mentally...you never want to push them too far too soon. In other words..its better hunt a young dog a little less than you think they can take than to go over that line and have them get bored or lose interest.
Good luck!
