Hernia

I got a pup two weeks ago that had a large hernia. About the size of a quarter and it's soft and I can feel guts. I bought this from a breeder on here. He didn't tell me anything about it. It's genetic correct . Don't you think the breeder should refund my money. I paid $400 for the 16 week old pup.

for a $400 pup the breeder could have had it corrected before you got it at 16 weeks old. when they are 6 weeks old one can tell how bad they are and either have them fixed or not. small hernia really do not harm a dog but the size of a quarter is questionable.
at 6 weeks a decent vet does not charge a lot-- some money vets will surely hold person up.

some are genetic and some are caused by the mother getting upset and jumping around while giving birth.

Can be easily corrected by a vet. Some go away on their own and some don't. Rarely are they a problem. As long as it is soft then it is all right. Also it is caused by the umbilical cord being pulled or torn during the birthing process. Most are just like navels. Some people have innies and some have outies.

Richard is correct.
One thing I would add. That is rather large.
When they are bigger like that you have a greater chance of the gut dropping through and getting strangulated. Like any organ deprived of blood it will cause the cells to die then you got major issues. Even death.
The breeder should of had it fixed or gave you a reduced price so you could have repaired it . Either way you should of been told.
Haven't priced or heard the cost lately. It was under 100 at one time to repair them. Very minor operation.

majority of vets push spay/neuter anyhow.. we had one litter that had a few puppies with hernias, we were able to repair them without having a operation done on them by using a quarter to push and hold the guts in and then a bandage around the belly to hold the quarter in place. Our vet suggested it because that's mainly the way they fix hernias in cows.

And I got nothing back not one single dime. They didn't pay for the surgery or discount a $400 dollar dog. I'm about to the point of blasting their names. I'm very angry. They said sell the dog if I'm not happy. Just pass the problems Down the road.
She has excellent potential. But I feel like I got one put over on me. Bad bussiness imo.

Four mos old pup with lots of potential for $400?? Sounds like you got a discount. I doubt that most coonhunters would care but yes, they probably should have told you. Did you tell them that you would give the pup back and get your money or that you wanted them to give you money and you keep the pup? How long after you got the pup did you wait to contact them?

had one about the size of a nickle on a english pup corrected back in march for less than a hundred dollars.not even noticeable now.there were several in that litter that had them and the breeder didn`t tell anyone.just take your licks and chalk it up as lesson learned.

My vet is pretty high compared to other vets in my area and he only charges $60 to fix one but he's the best . Real simple deal thats common and nothing to worry over for sure. If he had hernia between his ears that'd be different deal

that's because in their high mind they done you a favor just letting you get a pup out of their legendary hounds and you are supposed to feel lucky just to get a pup off their classic bloodline. They don't care what you do,they got the money and that's all that matters, all the other hype about breeding is a crock of s**t. There's been several dealings on here done similar to yours and worse in past few months that I am aware of. It don't bother them a bit, some already selling another litter on here now. Don't ever, ever trust a coonhunter straight out, verify then trust, sometime's. Anytime you're dealing with prestige, money, trophy, "Beware"!!!. If they'll cheat you over a pup, imagine what they'll do in hunt. As far as posting the names of these legends of the sport, you're wasting your time. Theres a code they go by and you'll only be labeled, birds of a feather flock together. Like I said, they think they done you a favor. If you like your pup and care about its well being so you can hunt it ,you'll have to get vet to fix it. Nothing like a dog with weak spot out hunting.

no big deal

i agree its no big deal. i bought a pup with a hernia 2 times and i sold 1 once and they have never had an issue. the sellers have always made me aware of it and i made sure to tell the people bout the pups hernia. That is the right thing to do for sure but maybe he thought it was small enough and dint think much of it.

How did you not see it when you bought it. First thing to check belly button and groins. Five seconds. Now since you didn't see it and if you told breeder with in a couple days 2 or 3. YES he most diffanatly should take pup back or if you want it pay for surgery. 100-300 $ FIX Around here. Good luck. Mark
