Hillbilly bred dogs

Is there anyone within a 100 miles of Pomeroy, Ohio (southeastern Ohio) that has a dog directly out of Tree Slammin Hillbilly or close to him that would take me hunting with their dog?

I have a grandaughter to Hillybilly that I am thinking of breeding to Brummy a son of Hillbilly. Thinking about trying it to see what traits are lined up dominately.

This is a problem with breeding Blueticks. If this was a National Grand Walker dog and I ask about a son/daughter or grandson/daughter within 100 miles I'd say I would have had no problem finding a few to hunt with. There are just more Walkers out there. So, I will ask the next question.

What did Hillbilly throw in his pups or grandpups that was exceptional ??

hillbilly females

I have owned or hunted 3 hillbilly females and all three had great tracking ability and the drifted very good, they also were loners to a extent. and they had a odd personality kind of like a cat lol

personality lol yes sir they have a mind of their own. stubborn very stubborn. very independent. not the fastest track dogs ive seen, but can take any track and put an end to it with the meat. stay put tree dogs under pressure. I haven't seen that wild eye drive in them though. don't get me wrong you can continue to cut them loose all night long and they will leave you hunting, but not the type that leaves throwing gravel. my buddies dog is right out of Hillbilly and he is a fast hunter! going to breed my granddaughter to this one of my friends cause I like how he operates and see if doubling down on Hillbilly works out or not. my gyp has consistently had good litters with great acting and hunting pups with my dog so we will see how different they are or not. did I say Stubborn lol hard headed yes sir, but I wouldn't take for mine. I've been wanting to make a cross like this for a few years but finally made my mind up to do it. I have a pup out of my buddies dog that I like so far. she has all the drive you want and will drive you crazy too lol

I know this I like the results of hillbilly daughters bred to Gauge!!
I had one here but that ol fool drove me nuts in the kennel. She is peaceful on a chain barks her head off in the kennel. She's gone now.

Accurate?? not what we seen, one bark locate and stay yes. We tried three.; Two raised up north not accurate at all. One raised here in Texas was about right but not accurate. They need to get treed and stay so that was a strong trait he passed on.

Kevin funny you say that about the Hillbilly bitch you had, I had a littermate brother to Hammer XVIII that was the same way you couldn't stand him in a kennel but tie him out and he was a different dog! Some of the traits I read on here can be used to descride him as well, just goes to show how the traits can carry on through!

Thanks for the replies. Bred a Hillbilly female to my Jimmy dog and the 2 we kept were a little different than other pups and young dogs I have out of him. Remains to see what type of tree dog's they are going to be become but I see some of the same things you guys are describing in them and wanted to make sure if those were some of Hillbilly's traits coming thru. Didn't think they were coming from the Mother's bottom side.

funny my hillbilly female hates being in a kennel but is great on the chain . every litter she has had the hillbilly looks have passed on big square head dark color and winding ability.from what I have seen directly out of t the females where more accurate than the males but the males hunted faster and made more mistakes mostley bawl mouth dogs out of t and lady short bawl /chop on tree
I had a male out of T and lady that set the bench mark for me but he was killed at 1 1/2 years old was fastest dog I ever owned loudest I ever owned and very accurate and natural from day 1 treed his first wild coon at 12 weeks old alone

Hillbilly himself was a throw gravel in your face get gone get treed hotter nosed dog that could drift a track in a hurry or just slam one layin up with no track when he was breed to the lady female she put more nose in the pups and the bawl mouth on tree she had a huge bawl mouth and kind of a wild tree style but neither t or lady had a mean bone in their body most people didn't know he was a late starting dog that was one more hunt from being shot cause he wouldn't go huntin most would have culled him kinda makes ya wonder about them earley starting dogs and witch ones turn out better in the end

sorry bout rambling on I miss huntin that dog and hunting with his handler jeff who passed away to soon good dog and a good man both passed the same week

The Bawl tree probably wasnt from Lady. The littermate I kept to T man was bawl mouth tree dog. also most natural dog I ever seen. If I remember correctly Jambo was bawl mouth tree.

Many dont believe me but I seen it with my own 2 eyes. He (Q-ball, litter mate to T-man)was 7 months olds never seen a coon , coon hide , or even scent. His first night out, Hes following me to his mama treed deep. He runs out in front of me about 30 yards stretches up on a tree and blows it down big huge bawls. I mean treeing like he can see it. I'm thinking what are you doing crazy pup. I throw the light up, he had 2 coon.

Ruffus, I showed him a cage coon. Turned it loose , he ran and treed it. (bawl mouth tree dog) The next night I hunted him by himself and treed 2 coon. He was never hunted with another dog til he treed 20 byhimself.

He was never hunted with another dog til he treed 20 byhimself.

that is about all ive had to do to start mine show em one cage coon and take em to the woods my tiny female had about 40/50 under her belt alone before she was ever hunted with another dog

I hunted with hammer 18 but never queen but I heard she was a hell of a dog

I've owned and hunted several and been to the woods with several outa hillbilly..100%accurate? NO! Tree more coon than most? YES!
Stubborn? Yes!
Good mouths, hard hunting, lay up ability and all night independent tree dogs is what I've constantly seen..
I personally wouldn't double up on hillbilly unless I new both parents inside and out and plenty about there background...but that's just me.
