Since ole Blue is out of the picture ....

I admit I'm jumping on the Sambo band wagon too! When UKC opened up the X-breed I couldn't believe the amount of crying and nay sayers. To see a X-bred dog take home all the marbles would make for a whole bunch of servings of that humble pie with a little crow mixed in

On the wagon

I'm with you Vic, since ole blue is out it's go go go sambo. It's been a very short time ago on the coonhound board I was reading where some were kicking on the X breds not winning. Would love to hear about Sam putting on a tree dog clinic tonight. Be plenty of that pie and crow to go around.

I see on the main board where the question is whether people will breed to him if he wins it all? That is a good question. I've kicked around in my brain the idea of making an Xbred cross but just can't make myself do it.

WELL a half Bluetick won the world hunt
we got a little bit closer tonight LOL

Still pretty aggravating that we can't get it done. I'm tired of hearing about how many are in the top 20 if we can't get one in the final 4. Lots of things happen to prevent it, but dog power can overcome a lot of obstacles. I guess we have to keep trying!

Congrats to those that made it to the finals. My hat is off to you for trying! All we can do is try harder next year.

Sambo

First of all congratulations is in order for this fine hound and the people responsible for him getting there. This brings to mind another topic. I've heard for years now about numbers verses breed. Well this X-Breed just shot a hole right through that theory. Only one X-Breed in the top 104 dogs, so I would say he was definitely low man on the totem pole. That dog had to beat a lot of different dogs of different breeds to get there and the odds were stacked against him if you use that method of numbers verses breed. At any rate, this fine hound got the job done in mixed company and I congratulate him and all who had a hand in getting him where he is today.

Congrats to the owners and breeders of Sambo! Who can tell me exactly how this cross bred thing works-I'm thinking if someone bred a Blue female to him, they would have to register that litter X-bred, but if they then took one from that litter and bred to a pure bred Bluetick, that litter could be registered as pure bred Bluetick again, is that correct?

You are dead on Mike! Once you get back to 7/8 (87.5%) they can be registered Bluetick. I forget the exact number, but I think it is 85% that UKC has in place. Basically excludes any 3/4 (75%) blood.

Congratulations to you and your hounds! Excellent weekend!

Keep it rolling!

Hey Mike, nice run at the world this year with Goomba. Congratulations to you and Jerry for getting your Piazon dogs in the top 20. From what I understand you are right on the cross breeding. I recently had a litter out of a blue female and sambo and they were registered X breed. A few of the folks that got pups said they called UKC and were told that if they took one of those pups and bred to a bluetick the pups would then be registered back bluetick. Doesnt make much a difference to me either way but it would be nice to see one of these pups turn out. They all went to guys that prefer to hunt bluetick so if the cross clicks we may see one of them bred back to blue and see forsure what the papers will show.

I'm betting Sambo shows up in some Bluetick pedigree's in the next few years.

Definitely wouldn't bet against it either. Have thought about an X bred cross as well. Can't see it on the next cross we make but can see it happening at some point in the not so distant future! Don't believe I'd have any problems feeding an X that operates the way I like! When looking at coon eyes in a tree I'm not really concerned what that dog looks like that put them there.

Sambo

Nice job, let them crossed up dogs enter as a category and two years later you got a winner. This should open the eyes of the die hard bluetickers. The true to the bone bluetick have been trying since the first world hunt to have a winner. The Walker men consistently put their breed in the winners circle. There are many excuses made about how the walkers consistently win. They are called slick treers. Babblers, trash runners, you name it. The fact of the matter is they figured out what worked and went with it. I read where people talk about not being able to own one of those slick treeing idiots. What would you rather have, a dog that makes 5 tree in two hours and shows you three coon or ole accurate that pounds out a track for an hour and has the coon. The walkers are consistently winning because they make something happen. There are also more nice females to choose from on the other side. You see people talk about a dog having ole so and so in there 22 times in five generations. Well ole so and so didn't produce anything the first time, why did he get twenty one more. I see posts about the old timers rolling over in there grave. I bet some are rolling over because of the way these dogs are being bred because it goes back to that ole boys line that didn't know what he was doing. Breed jealousy didn't start in the last 10 years. What is a pure bred dog? The debate over this X-BRED thing is going to get worse before it gets better. These dogs have been crossed up for ever, the way the line creator felt he needed to go. If this breed was full of consistent winners and reproducers I would not feel there was a need to add something else. Since it isn't maybe it's time for the blue breeders to step back and add some outside influence. What says the breeders of today have went the correct route in breeding these dogs up. If you look at a pedigree the bluetick Gene pool is pretty small. UKC is allowing people to add a little outside influence to help different breed's correct there short comings. If a racing team lost every big race every year do you think they will continue to do the same and hope for better luck next year. No, they will make necessary changes to get to the top. Even if the breed doesn't allow you to come back in at 80% your dog is purebred again. It will just prove that the association is not really in place for the betterment of the breed. Think about how many said the old timers we're rolling over in there graves when the breed's began to separate. Some time the past is there as a lesson of what not to do in the future. There have been some really nice blue dogs to win some big hunts but you would be hard pressed to find 10 in the country that you could load tonight and go have people worried when you drew out. Thank you UKC for the opportunity to add outside influence without having to sneak behind the barn.

I bought a pair of littermate pups to sambo when they were eight weeks old . I am a bluetick man but the best pair of dogs I've ever hunted with were half walker and bluetick but if sambo is anything like the two I had , being a lover of hounds that look like and sound like hounds I would not hunt them . I sold both the pups I had . Not taking anything away from sambo as he is a proven winner . everbody likes different things in a hound and if your happy with what you are feeding you really can't do any better .

The pups I've been around had good mouths and looks. They held their own in the woods too
