Good luck, Jim. Tear them up!

I gave up big hunts and specifically Walker Days in the mid 1990's. My dog getting scratched while peeing on a tree was the last straw.

I drove from my house to Brazil. I had stopped a couple of times to let him out. After I got to Brazil, it started pouring. It rained until 9:00 pm. I tried to get him out of the box to relieve himself, but he didn't want to come out into the down pour. Our first drop, we cut the dogs on a tractor path into the woods. My male ran to the first tree and started peeing. He was peeing like a race horse and started moaning. The judge said the minute was up and I was scratched.

Apparently, I should have called him because he hadn't stopped moaning yet. 495 miles to be scratched in 1 minute and about 10 seconds. What made matters worse, he took off as i was pleading my case. He struck a track, and the other dogs opened. He ran the track and treed despite the other dogs never honoring him. He had the coon. I stayed with the cast as I always do, and they never treed a coon. The guide made the remark, "boys, we scratched the only coon dog on our cast tonight."

That was my last big hunt. Yep, it is still sore after all of this time.

The Red dogs are allowed to compete in the pup derby up to 4 years old, Its only fair to let them have a chance.....

We're not coming this year. The pup hunt was one of my favorite events. It was an opportunity to showcase the project from the fall/winter. The final 4 was really the best part, the outcome didn't depend on best guide. And WALKER DAYS was held before the leaves came on. I believe it may be only breed days where that was the case.

If it gets moved to June permanently, I'm not sure it'll be any kind of priority for us.

Really enjoy hunting the pup hunt. Just don't have anything to hunt this year. Probably will never hunt Friday or Saturday night again till it gets moved a little farther south where you don't have to score 1500+ to win.
And I to also like it better with leaves off.

You can bet if the entry numbers are higher with 'leaves on',
it will never go back to no leaves.
75+ w/1900 circle will win it..............

Leaves on or leaves off, the dog that trees the most coons will still win. I guess that is providing he/she also gets struck quick enough.

Have you ever put a dog in this hunt? Your comment above isn't even remotely close to reality. These are pups under two years old.

I've Hunted Walker days.
My post wasn't about the 'pup' hunt.
It was about moving it to when leaves are in full bloom, instead
of when it was.....leaves off.
