Old school Remedies

I've heard heard of old timers using tobacco or charcoal to worm dogs and horses. Anyone ever done this? I know a farmer that bands his yard dogs the same as his bull calves. I like my dogs too much for that. Are there any other old school veterinary or training methods that surprised you? Ever try any and surprised by the success?

Would you prefer all the old school medicines, technology, etc. or would you prefer to have the new stuff that works, and probably works better ??(Granite some things now are useless) Im not being a prick so please do not take it that way but id probably not try the old school tricks bud.

Venice turpintine is very good for dogs with sore or cut up feet.
Sulfer mixed with lard is good to treat skin conditions along with a 3mg melatonin pill daily

No offense taken. I enjoy the luxuries modern technology and science has provided me with. I don't turn a dog loose without the garmin and my sister in law is a vet and I follow her recommendations. I just like history and it seldom hurts to learn new things
