Could your dog feed your family?

If you had to depend on your dog to tree coon, could you keep your family fed? Be honest with yourself! I got a feeling that if that was a requirement the styles of dogs we are hunting would change drastically.

I know most don't like to eat coon but that isn't what the question is about.

I know 1 thing there would be some crash diets going on from what I have seen , lol not all but some. Some would be eating what you would call fast food.

If it came to my dog having to feed my family I would do what I did back then I would be very selective what I hunted and put way more effort into it been many years since I got in the woods at dark and came out at daylight that's what it took.

Couldnt imagine it really. Everything is so expensive nowadays. it would defiantly change the game a bit. I look at the guys that do feed there families coon hunting and think that there is no way that i could support my lifestyle and family. Maybe it comes with age. I dont have all the knowledge one needs to be able to train a hound to be **** near perfect.

If this was the case my family would still get a selection, coon to eat with afew squirrels and possum dinners mixed in, then afew weeks of fasting here and there lol.

Ive heard several guys say, " my hound is a competition dog, if we had to eat coon through the week we'd starve to death"

Talk about a beast feast

Deer
Coon
Possum
Squirrel
Bobcat
Fox
Coyote

Heck we might eat better. Lol

On a serious note my hounds have been doing pretty good staying off the trash lately. Now I'm sure they will burn it up.

I think she could. She is getting a little fat in her old age, but that might be the only thing that makes her edible. I imagine her being tough and gamey tasting, but if I needed to, ya she could feed a family. Just mix with a little rice and sweet and sour sauce.

Oh, I get it. You mean the game she trees. Well ya then.

When I was a kid if you looked at it and did not know what it was you did not ask and they did not tell you just ate it that's what ketchup was for lol. Coon crapping stinks when it's cooking I would just as soon eat anything else.

If prices of hides were worth the price they were in the 70's and early 80's,,, and had more entries' in the local $$ hunts then I think I could get by on the $ menu at McDonald's lol

I think if we had to rely on our coon hounds to feed us 1/2 of them would be culled in the first week.

I ask this question because the dog I'm hunting now opened my eyes to something. There really can be a coon in almost every tree. We don't have to settle for 70% accurate being a great number. You just have to not stop looking until you find the right one.
